Queen Letizia joins the Chinese President and the First Lady for a gala dinner in Spain

She is famed for her cutting edge approach to royal fashion but Letizia was the epitome of a Queen this evening.

The Queen of Spain joined her husband King Felipe VI and their guests the President of China Xi Jinping and his wife wife Peng Liyuan for a gala dinner on Wednesday.

The dinner this evening will celebrate the couple’s visitors’ final evening in Spain as they come to the end of their two-day tour.

Letizia, 46, looked typically glamourous in a floor length black velvet gown for the banquet which was held at the Royal Palace.

The dress had a hint of Hollywood in the form of diamante cuffs and naturally the crowning glory was the royal consort’s tiara.

For tonight’s event Letizia opted for the Diamond and Pearl tiara of Queen Maria Christina previously favoured by her mother-in-law Queen Sofia.

She could also be seen wearing the sash of the Royal and Distinguished Spanish Order of Charles III as is customary during ceremonial engagements.

King Felipe, 50, looked suitably dapper in black tie and could be seen wearing the same sash as his wife.

The tour marks the first time a Chinese leader has visited the country in 13 years, and the two countries are expected to sign around 20 intergovernmental and business agreements later today.

This should include a deal to export on-the-bone legs of Iberian ham to the Chinese market, and rules to avoid double-taxation.
