Queenscliff Brewhouse brawl: Footage captures police officers being attacked

Dramatic vision has emerged of six police officers being attacked by a group of drunken men after being called to a seaside pub to break up a brawl.

A rowdy pub fight erupted between two men at the Queenscliff Brewhouse.  a seaside pub east of Geelong, Victoria, at 10pm on Saturday night.

When police officers tried to escort a patron from the pub, two men allegedly assaulted them, the Herald Sun reports.

A female police officer will spend at least a week away from duties to recover from her injuries, while five of her male co-workers were also attacked.

It was alleged pub goers interfered with initial arrests, leading to second responders using pepper spray on arrival.

Three of the six officers were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while the remaining three were treated at the scene.   

Acting Senior Sergeant Michael Graham said an ‘excessive use of alcohol’ led to the brutality.

‘Our members are not to be utilised as punching bags.’

Seven men in total were arrested in relation to the attacks. 

Two men were charged with assault, resisting police, and causing reckless injury. 

They are set to appear at the Geelong Magistrates Court on the 5th of October, The Age reports.  

Three men were released but could still face charges including hindering police and being drunk in a public place, while another man is expected to face the same charges, including assaulting police. 

Another man was fined for being drunk in a public place.

Police are yet to speak to an eighth man involved, whose name was not publicly disclosed.

The pub in which the fight initially broke out are considering what bans should be imposed on all involved. 

‘We have a zero tolerance approach to this it is simply not on. Anyone who think they can abuse, assault or injure any member of Victoria Police should know that there will be very serious consequences,’ Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said. 

Mr Andrews also mentioned new laws recently passed resulting in mandatory jail time for anybody found guilty of attacking an emergency services workers.
