Queensland gang member accused of shooting rival Comanchero bikie to inspire rap music, says police

A suspected street gang has been accused of gunning down other crime figures to inspire their rap music.

Hanad Mohammed Mohammud, 23, allegedly shot senior Comanchero Kyle Leofa, 25, twice in the face about 7.45pm on September 12.

Dramatic CCTV footage filed with Brisbane Magistrates Court showed the moment of the shooting, which Leofa survived, near the rooftop of a shopping centre carpark in the Logan suburb of Underwood.

A group of about 20 men, alleged to be apart of the African and Middle Eastern street gang K12 or KTM, were filming a rap music video for KTM Henny’s album Opp Block Tour nearby.

Dramatic CCTV footage has emerged showing the shooting of senior Comanchero Kyle Leofa, 25, on top of a shopping centre rooftop carpark in Underwood, Queensland on September 12. Police allege K12 gang members are in the footage filming a rap video beforehand

Mohammud, who denies being in the gang, is allegedly seen in an ice blue puffer jacket at the beginning of the footage, the Courier Mail reported.

The video cuts to the alleged street gang in the corner of the carpark filming the music video as a Toyota Hilux, in which Leofa was a passenger, drives up to the rooftop then reverses back down the ramp.

Mohammud faced court charged with attempted murder, dangerous conduct with a weapon, and four other related charges.

He planned to plead not guilty to all of them.

Acacia Ridge Criminal Investigation Branch Senior Const Shane Hayes alleged in court that gang members were shouting ‘Ops’, which refers to a rival gang in the vicinity, when the Hilux got to the rooftop.

He also claimed gang members were intentionally getting involved in shootings to inspire the lyrics and art of their rap music.

‘Opp means opposition which indicates to me that the defendant and his street gang are intentionally engaging in shooting incidents in the local area to produce events able to be mentioned in lyrical expression,’ he told the court.

He added that the album cover of Opp Block Tour depicted ‘two men wearing balaclavas and driving around the neighbourhood shooting at persons’.

Mohammud is alleged in court documents to have run to the rooftop and fired two shots at the reversing vehicle, which was being slowed down by cars behind it.

The group of men is seen in the CCTV footage running in different directions after the shots were fired.

Leofa was allegedly struck by one bullet which went through his top lip, past his tongue and became lodged near his throat, according to the court documents.

The other bullet was allegedly discovered embedded in the Hilux.

Leofa was taken to Mater Private Hospital emergency department and treated for his bullet wound. The bullet was extracted and given to police.

The senior bikie refused to reveal to police who shot him or provide any information.

Police later found Mohammud in a Southbank hotel in Melbourne and arrested him on September 23.

He was extradited back to Queensland to face an attempted murder charge.

Mohammud’s lawyer, Danielle Heable, said police had no evidence to back these charges against her client.

She said despite being in the area, he was not involved in the shooting and the CCTV footage was inconclusive and did not point out any shooter.

She added that police did not provide any link between the K12 gang and the Comancheros or say if Mohammud knew Leofa.

Supreme Court Justice Peter Davis did not believe the police’s claim that Mohammud was a part of the street gang.

Mohammud will face court again on November 28.
