A man and woman have been left in a critical condition and taken to hospital after they were shot multiple times from a man standing on his verandah.

Emergency services were called around 7.20am on Saturday to a home on Goman Street, Sunnybank Hills in Queensland after a 46-year-old was shot multiple times in the chest and a 25-year-old woman was shot twice in her leg.

A 24-year-old has been arrested and police found casings from a 22-calibre gun but are unable to find the weapon itself.

The pair were walking their dog before they were hit with bullets, forcing them to take cover in a nearby bus stop after the gunman continued to fire.

Police believe the alleged victims and their attacker knew each other but don’t know what caused the attack.

‘This is not a random attack on a stranger walking down the street, these people are known to each other so the cause of it will be identified in due course,’ Inspector Geoff Acreman said as reported by the ABC.

‘The reports are that he has produced a firearm and started shooting at the people who were on the road,’ he said.

The 46-year-old had emergency surgery at Princess Alexandria Hospital and is in a stable but serious condition in the Intensive Care Unit.

The woman was also taken to hospital but remains stable.

Inspector Acreman said the man began shooting at the pair while they were standing on the road before chasing them into a bus stop.

‘It’s reported that the suspect has then jumped the neighbouring fence and has continued to shoot the people on the footpath,’ Inspector Acreman said.

The gunman fled in a black BMW that was tracked down by police to a house in Doolandella, 12km from the crime scene.

A policeman also received injuries after the couple’s dog bit him, causing blood to pour from his arm before being taken to the Mater Hospital in a stable condition.
