A 45-year-old man has turned himself into police after allegedly bashing a policeman in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland on Friday.

Kevin De Vroom is due to appear in court, where police will allege the man tried to choke an officer before stealing his helmet – which had a body camera attached.

De Vroom’s alleged crimes were committed despite the officer using capsicum spray and a taser on the man.

Kevin De Vroom allegedly punched in the head, kicked, and choked a policeman, giving him facial injuries, after his van was pulled over on the Central Coast on Friday

The 45-year-old allegedly became violent when his van was stopped on Maleny-Montville Road in the NSW Central Coast about 4.30pm on December 22.

Police claim he choked the 47-year-old officer before ripping off his helmet and bashing him and fleeing in the same van.

The alleged assault was captured on the motorbike officer’s helmet camera until it was pulled off in the scuffle.

In a separate incident three days later, a police sergeant was hospitalised after a brutal bashing during a vehicle stop on the Sunshine Coast, prompting a manhunt for a 39-year-old passenger.

Footage from the officer’s body camera shows a man, reportedly 39-year-old Ashley Dodd, punching a patrolman in the face several times, and even jumping on him.

The man is believed to have been under the influence of drugs during the roadside stop.

Senior police condemned the drug-fuelled attack, which was witnessed by a nine-year-old boy related to the alleged perpetrator.

Queensland police are appealing for public help to find Ashley Dodd who they say seriously assaulted the 49-year-old male officer on a Glass House Mountains road on Christmas Eve.
