Queenslanders are becoming increasingly unhappy with Annastacia Palaszczuk as the premier’s satisfaction rating plummets into negative numbers, a new survey has revealed.

The most recent YouGov poll, obtained by the Courier-Mail, revealed Ms Palaszczuk now faced a net satisfaction rating of -1 – the first time it’s dropped that low since before the pandemic.

The premier has seen a worrying downwards trend in her popularity, with 41 per cent of her constituents dissatisfied with how she is performing and only 40 per cent saying they were happy.

Ms Palaszczuk boasted an incredible 57 per cent satisfaction rating during the 2020 state election however that enviable figure has been drastically dropping this year.

A YouGov poll in February had the premier’s satisfaction rating listed at 50 per cent before it dropped to 45 per cent in June.

The latest poll, conducted last week, saw her drop to her lowest rating of 40 per cent.

The 40 per cent satisfaction rating is lower than her predecessor Premier Campbell Newman, who suffered a stunning election defeat in 2015.

Former Liberal Premier Newman’s satisfaction rating was at 41 per cent during his 2015 campaign but his net result was -11, with 52 per cent dissatisfied.

Then-Labor premier Anna Bligh’s satisfaction rating sat at 43 per cent before the 2012 election wipe-out, with a net result of -9.

Opposition Leader David Crisafulli’s satisfaction rating has remained at 31 per cent since June.

The poll revealed 39 per cent of Queenslanders still believe Ms Palaszczuk would be the better premier, with 28 per cent backing Mr Crisafulli.

One in three voters are still uncommitted on the question.

Tensions boiled over between the premier and her opponent earlier in the year after Ms Palaszczuk came under fire for frequently attending glamourous social events.

Mr Crisafulli announced Ms Palaszczuk was playing the ‘same old games, round and round … red carpet, glitz, glamour, no vision.’

The premier insisted she was on top of her workload – and visiting high-profile events was ‘part of her job’.

Two in 10 people in the state still don’t have an opinion about the current premier, as Mr Crisafulli may have an opportunity to pull ahead with four in 10 not holding an opinion about how the Opposition Leader is performing.

Queenslanders will head to the polls on October 26, 2024.

The approval rating comes as the premier offered her condolences after the three people – two police officers and an innocent neighbour were gunned down at a remote bush property in Wieambilla on Monday.

‘This is a horrific tragedy, and on behalf of the entire state of Queensland, I offer my deep, deep condolences to the families and loved ones of those two young constables who were tragically killed’, she said on Tuesday.

‘They were so young. So young. They were incredibly brave. These were absolutely callous, brutal acts. And with honour, they served.’
