Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk takes a cruise as 45 bushfires burn in her state

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is taking a cruise as 45 bushfires burn in her state.

The Labor leader went on leave last week as bushfires threatened properties on the Sunshine Coast.

Two days after she took off on holiday, 60 homes were evacuated at Perigian Springs and Weyba Downs near Noosa.

Ms Palaszczuk’s spokesman Kerryn Manifold confirmed she had taken a cruise around Queensland but highlighted she was still in Australia – following Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s early return on Saturday night from Hawaii.

‘She’s on a cruise, it’s a cruise around Queensland, Queensland destinations,’ he told Daily Mail Australia on Tuesday.

‘We’re not going to politicise it. She has not left Australia.’

Queensland Opposition frontbencher Jarrod Bleijie suggested there was a double standard, with Mr Morrison being criticised by green activists as Ms Palaszczuk was spared.

‘Where is Annastacia Palaszczuk and her apology? She’s on holidays too,’ he tweeted.

‘Premier’s state gov has more to do with bush fire response then the feds.

‘Turn the cruise ship around and bring back Annastacia.’

While federal Labor leader Anthony Albanese has been reluctant to criticise Mr Morrison for holidaying in Hawaii, radical environmental activists and the Greens last week used the Liberal PM’s absence from Australia to accuse him of failing to take climate change seriously.

They even picketed Kirribilli House on Sydney Harbour with placards mocking him for being on holidays, even though state governments rather than the Commonwealth fund and are in charge of the Rural Fire Service.

‘How’s the week in Hawaii, Scott,’ one sign said, with an image of children standing on a beach as a bushfire burned.

A 13-year-old girl Izzy Raj-Seppings also held up a sign alluding to Mr Morrison’s abence from Australia.

‘Look at what you’ve left us,’ it said.

New South Wales Greens MP David Shoebridge, who was arrested outside Kirribilli House protesting about Mr Morrison’s absence from Australia, last week confirmed he would be going on holidays.

‘I’m going on holiday just to the north of Sydney, I’m taking a week off there with my family and then I’m going just to the south of Jervis Bay for five or six days as well,’ he told Sky News. ‘I will be contactable.’

So far, environmental activists haven’t protested about Ms Palaszczuk’s annual leave.

The Queensland Premier is on leave until after Christmas as 45 bushfires burn across the Sunshine State.

The state’s Rural Fire Service considers 14 of them to ones requiring residents to be prepared for danger.

Residents haven’t been evacuated from anywhere in Queensland since Thursday last week when fires threatened Perigian, a spokesman for the state’s fire service said.

‘It doesn’t look too bad for us,’ he told Daily Mail Australia on Tuesday.

‘It’s certainly not anywhere near what’s going on in New South Wales.’

Meanwhile, NSW Liberal Premier Gladys Berejiklian is deferring her annual leave as 110 fires burn across Australia’s most populated state, with 60 of them uncontained.
