Quickfire: tough guy TV presenter Ant Middleton

SAS: Who Dares Wins chief instructor Ant Middleton

Guilty pleasure? A full-on fried breakfast – one that fills you up for the whole day.

Where is home? A three-storey townhouse in Chelmsford, Essex, with my wife Emilie and our children, two boys and two girls, aged from one to ten.

Career plan B? A mountain climbing instructor or guide.

Who would play you in a movie of your life? Tom Hardy, who I think would understand my life.

Biggest bugbear? I hate it when people are late and I hate being late.

As a child you wanted to be… A photographer.

Earliest memory? My father passing away when I was five. He was 36 and had a heart attack.

Secret to a happy relationship? Absence definitely makes the heart grow fonder, but not too much. Make sure you take time out for yourself and that your partner does the same.

Your best quality? Whatever I turn my hand to I put in the effort to be the best.

And your worst? I like to think that I know it all and don’t like to be told otherwise.

Most romantic thing you’ve ever done? I have three tattoos of my wife – on my wrist, chest and back.

Last meal on earth? Medium-rare fillet steak and chips.

Dream dinner-party guest? Mark Wahlberg. He’s pro-military, he seems like a fun guy, he’s a family man. I think we’d have a lot in common.

Cat or dog? I love dogs, but they are a big responsibility and with four children having one would be too much.

What do you see when you look in the mirror? What’s next? Let’s do it! My life is chaotic and spontaneous, which is the way I like it.

On a day off we’d find you… Spending every minute with my wife and children.

Starstruck moment? Saying hello to Leonardo DiCaprio at the premiere of The Revenant.

Big break? Probably being chief instructor on Channel 4’s SAS: Who Dares Wins, but Mutiny projected me on to a different level. I loved every minute of it, even though psychologically it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

Career highlight? Passing the military Special Forces selection process in 2008, when I was presented with my beret and belt by Prince William and Prince Harry.

Scariest moment? Riding out the storms we faced during Mutiny.

Favourite tipple? I’m a big fan of water, but when it comes to alcohol I like a glass of malbec red wine.

Hangover cure? Get up and go for a run.

Top of your bucket list? To climb Mount Everest. I want to stand on the apex of the world.

Secret skill? I can bottle feed two babies at once.

One thing that would make your life better? More money.

Philosophy? Concentrate on the positive.

Where would you time travel to? Back to the ancient days of Sparta.

Most extravagant purchase? A set of Bose speakers. I bought them for my wife, but they were really for me!

Biggest fear? Being isolated somewhere and not in control.

Celebrity crush? Julia Roberts.

Happiness is… True love and respect.
