Quincy Jones: ‘Paul Allen can play and SING like Hendrix’

Quincy Jones has lifted the lid on some of the best and worst musicians he has come across – and the results are nothing short of astonishing.

Paul Allen, Microsoft’s co-founder, plays and sings just as well as Jimi Hendrix, according to Jones, who also said his first impressions of The Beatles were that they were the ‘worst musicians in the world’.

Among the other extraordinary revelations the 84-year-old came out with in a revealing interview was that he dated Ivanka Trump twelve years ago.

The legendary record producer talked to Vulture about a host of things, and among the most jaw-dropping is the musical prowess of one of the country’s leading entrepreneurs.

Unprompted, he told the interviewer David Marchese: ‘You know who sings and plays just like Hendrix? Paul Allen.

‘I went on a trip on his yacht, and he had David Crosby, Joe Walsh, Sean Lennon — all those crazy motherf*****s.

‘Then on the last two days, Stevie Wonder came on with his band and made Paul come up and play with him — he’s good, man.’

If his first impression of Allen was that he could play, his first impression of The Beatles was anything but.

They were the worst musicians in the world,’ he told Vulture.

‘Paul was the worst bass player I ever heard. And Ringo? Don’t even talk about it.’

He recalled being in the studio attempting to nail down Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing for Ringo Starr’s solo debut album Sentimental Journey.

Jones said everything sounded ‘gloopy’ and that Starr couldn’t nail the beat.

Iconic Jones – working with the so-called fifth Beatle George Martin – sent Starr out to drink a lager and lime and to eat some shepherd’s pie.

While The Beatles star was out, they smuggled Ronnie Verrell into the studio who ‘tore up’.

‘Ringo comes back,’ Jones said, ‘And says, “George, can you play it back for me one more time?”

‘So George did, and Ringo says, “That didn’t sound so bad.” And I said, “Yeah, because it ain’t you.” Great guy, though.’

Jones also talked about the political landscape in America, which he is clearly not a fan of.

He believes racism is rife in the US, and told Vulture: ‘It’s Trump and uneducated rednecks. Trump is just telling them what they want to hear.

‘I used to hang out with him. He’s a crazy motherf****r.

‘Limited mentally — a megalomaniac, narcissistic. I can’t stand him.’

And Jones has first-hand experience of the Trumps.

In an extraordinary revelation, he told Vulture: ‘I used to date Ivanka, you know. Twelve years ago.

‘She had the most beautiful legs I ever saw in my life. Wrong father, though.’

Ivanka, 36, and her husband, Jared Kushner, started dating around 2005, meaning they would have been a year into their relationship when Jones claims he started seeing the future first daughter.

A source close to Ivanka told DailyMail.com: ‘This story is not true’.

In addition to being 48 years Ivanka’s senior, Jones is also 13 years older than her father, President Trump.

Jones has been married three times and has total of seven children, including actress Rashida Jones, 41.
