And they’re (blown) off! Racegoers are dressed to the nines as they brave torrential downpours and 60mph winds for Ladies Day at Haydock

The ladies of Merseyside battled torrential downpours as they descended on Haydock Park Racecourse on Saturday – but didn’t let the rain dampen their spirits as they amped up the glamour.

Despite the miserable weather and 60mph winds, revellers were spotted strutting their stuff in strappy stilettos, frilled frocks and floral numbers as they put on an incredible fashion display for a day at the races.

Guests were in stark contrast to the grey skies and murky clouds as they turned out a flurry of rainbow colours to kick off Ladies Day with a bang.

Attempting to keep their extravagant ensembles dry, racegoers shielded themselves with umbrellas, raincoats, scarves and hats as they gathered to watch the horses.

But a few ladies weren’t so lucky – with the strong wind blowing their umbrella inside-out as they splashed their way through puddles.

Crowds of glamorous revellers ensured the party would continue despite the terrible forecast, with some sipping champagne from plastic cups while others cracked open cans of beer.

Flood and weather warnings appeared no match for these ladies, with photos showing them cracking a smile in their opulent garb as they joined their friends for a day of fun-filled celebrations.
