Radio presenter Iain Lee says he is quitting his show in on-air break-down

Radio Presenter Iain Lee worried listeners last night after appearing to have a breakdown live on air – announcing that he wanted to ‘quit’ the talkRADIO show repeating, ‘It’s over, it’s over’.

Listeners tuned in to the usually cheerful weeknight 10pm show, The Late Night Alternative, to find Lee, 45, denouncing the show as ‘pointless’, ‘wasting time until we die’ and ‘a radio station that no one listens to’.

The presenter launched into the emotional rant while co-host Katherine Boyle kept quiet for the most part with no producers stepping into help.

Lee then became emotional discussing how he had seen a fatal car accident.

Although Mr Lee insinuated he would be quitting his job, an insider at the station told MailOnline that the show is expected to go ahead as normal this evening.

During the rant Lee said he didn’t think he was setting a good example for his children by working at the show.

He said: ‘”What is your job dad?” I sit in a studio and I talk rubbish for three hours a night, what example is that to set my kids.

‘That’s no example, that’s not a job, that’s not a job.’

He also voiced his frustration over the small listener base: ‘A radio station that no one listens to, that they don’t advertise. We get 25,000 listeners on this show.

‘What’s the point in this? There is no point in this.’

The presenter then went on to apologise for sending pictures to the listeners.

He said: ‘To everyone that I’ve upset sending pictures of my d*** i’m really sorry.’

Iain Lee took to Twitter to apologise for his outburst on-air

And added: ‘I’m blocking all of you because i’m sick and tired of the passive aggressive sub tweets.

‘I’m not making myself out to be a victim, what I did was terrible. But do you know what i’m done with it man.

Turning to his co-host he added:  ‘I’m done with this rubbish. It’s over, it’s over.

‘I’ve got nothing left Katherine.

‘I have absolutely nothing left whatsoever, I quit, I quit, i’m done.’

‘This show is rubbish, pointless.’

Patient co-host Boyle then asks: ‘Where’s this come from?

‘Yesterday you were really proud of something.’

Lee said that he was not proud of the moment he kept a suicidal man on the line after he took an overdose, getting an ambulance to the man in Plymouth just days after Christmas.

The talkRADIO host kept the man from Devon, on the line for 30 minutes during a show on December 19 while police and paramedics rushed to his aid.

He said: ‘”You saved a guys life.” No we didn’t a guy phoned up and we called an ambulance.’

Adding:  ‘I don’t think in good conscience I can carry on taking money for this.’

Lee later took to Twitter apologising to his co-host Boyle and the listeners for his behaviour on the show and said that certain factors had pushed him to his limit.

'I'm gutted for him' wrote one Twitter user while another thought the breakdown was a performance

He wrote: ‘Again, very sorry for last night. Divorce, sex and being in a near fatal car crash and seeing some horrific things have stretched me to the limits. Disappointed some I saw as allies are using my emotional show as clickbait, but I guess that’s 2019.’

Adding: ‘Apologies to putting my best mate through that and I thank her for her ongoing support. I am blessed in that respect. I’m not the person you all think I am and I am working bloody hard to fix that. Marathon not a sprint and all that.’

After an overwhelming number of messages of support from his fans on Twitter, Mr Lee has suggested the radio show will continue as usual.

He said: ‘Thanks for your kind words.

‘See you at 10pm.’

Listeners took to Twitter to question what was going on and voice their sympathy.

The former I’m A Celebrity star previously ranted about declining numbers of listeners and the lack of originality of his nightly show, The Late Night Alternative on TalkRADIO in November, admitting that he felt like he was ‘treading water’.

As his aghast co-host Boyle attempted to talk to him, the comedian went on to slam ‘the same old callers’ who contact the show before saying if he didn’t have to shell out £3,000 a month, he would quit.
