Rami Malek finally opens up about Bryan Singer allegations

Rami Malek has finally spoken out against Bryan Singer, more than a week after new sexual abuse allegations against the Hollywood director came to light.

The Bohemian Rhapsody star showed his support for Singer’s alleged victims and opened up about his own experience on the set of the Freddie Mercury biopic.

‘In my situation with Bryan, it was not pleasant,’ Malek revealed while speaking on a Hollywood Reporter panel at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Saturday.

‘Not at all,’ he continued. ‘And that’s about what I can say at this point.’

Singer was fired from the film for not showing up to work but remains billed on the production.

He also still stands to make $40million from the movie, which has gone on to earn five Oscar nominations – including Best Picture and Best Actor for Malek.

‘For anyone who is seeking any solace in all of this, Bryan Singer was fired,’ Malek said on Saturday.

‘Bryan Singer was fired. I don’t think that was something anyone saw coming but I think that had to happen and it did.’

Malek had previously said he was unaware of the allegations against Singer, which were first reported back in 2014 when Michael Egan accused the director of rape.

And on Saturday the former Mr Robot star spoke at length about supporting the alleged victims, saying he didn’t ‘want anyone to not feel like they can’t share their story’.

‘My heart goes out to anyone who has to live through anything like what I’ve heard and what is out there,’ Malek said.

‘It’s awful. It’s remarkable that this happens. I can appreciate so much what they’ve been through and how difficult this must be for them.’

‘In the light of the #MeToo era that this somehow seems to exist after that, it’s a horrible thing,’ he added.

‘I’ve sat here and talked about how everyone deserves a voice and anyone who wants to talk about what happened with Bryan deserves to have their voice heard.’

Four men accused Singer of raping them while they were underage in an expose that was released by The Atlantic nearly two weeks ago.

Victor Valdovinos said he was just 13 years old when Singer molested him on the set of Apt Pupil.

Another accuser, who did not want to use his real name, said he was kicked out of his home at 16 because he was gay, and that was how he came to meet Singer.

They made out once when he was 16 said the accuser, who also alleged that the pair had oral sex when he was 17 or 18 at one of Singer’s parties.

‘He would stick his hands down your pants without your consent,’ he claimed.

‘He was predatory in that he would ply people with alcohol and drugs and then have sex with them.’

Eric, who also asked that his name be withheld, alleged that he was just 17 when he had sex with Singer – who was 31 years old at the time.

He claimed that Singer was surrounded by two types of young men.

‘If you weren’t young and cute enough to be their boy, you could still ingratiate yourself by bringing boys to them,’ he said of Singer and his cohorts.

Suspicions were first raised regarding Singer’s treatment of child actors all the way back in 1997, when a 14-year-old extra from Apt Pupil alleged the director asked him and two other boys to film a nude shower scene.

The teens alleged that they were filmed solely for sexual gratification. The lawsuit was eventually dismissed.

In 2014, Michael Egan accused Singer of sexual assault. He alleged that the director drugged and raped him when he was 14 or 15 years old.

Three years later, Cesar Sanchez-Guzman filed a lawsuit against Singer and said the director had raped him in 2003 when he was just 17 years old.

Despite years and years of allegations, Singer continues to find work in Hollywood.

He was recently paid $10million to direct the upcoming film Red Sonja, about a Marvel heroine who is a survivor of rape.
