Rand Paul mocks Rudy Giuliani: How was he ‘the best the President could think of for a lawyer’

Republican Senator Rand Paul went on a Twitter rant where he questioned why Trump chose Rudy Giuliani to be his personal lawyer

Rand Paul, a Republican senator, ripped into Donald Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani on Monday as he participated in a part serious, part sarcastic ‘airing of grievances.’

Festivus is a secular holiday celebrated the day before Christmas Eve aimed at combating the commercialism of the holiday season and includes the ‘airing of grievances,’ where people take the liberty of sharing issues they had with others throughout the year.

Paul took part in this aspect of the celebration on his Twitter account Monday.

‘Good morning and Happy Festivus! Today there will be many, many grievances aired, almost all in good fun,’ Paul tweeted with a gif of the cast of Seinfeld, a 1990s sitcom that made Festivus famous.

After listing a few issues he had with impeachment, primarily calling out House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff, Paul brought up the president’s personal attorney.

‘It’s going to be really hard to live with myself if I don’t get to sit in a chair all day long for weeks at a time listening to people talk about Rudy Giuliani,’ Paul sarcastically quipped after joking about Pelosi’s decision not to send impeachment to the Senate for a trial there.

'You have to wonder how he was the best the president could think of for a lawyer,' Paul posted, mentioning the infamous butt dials and lengthy voice mails Giuliani has become known for

‘You do have to wonder how he was the best the President could think of for a lawyer – ‘hey, get me that guy who spills his guts on CNN and butt dials everyone in Washington. He can keep a secret!’ Paul tweeted of the former Republican New York City mayor.

Giuliani is known for his loose lips and in the past has butt dialed people and unbeknownst to him left lengthy voice mails.

On Twitter, he also mentioned Schiff publishing a report that included a call record between Giuliani, a reporter and Republican ranking member of the Intelligence Committee Devin Nunes.

‘Thankfully, I didn’t have any calls with Rudy, or Adam Schiff would have been spying on me,’ Paul wrote in another tweet included in his lengthy thread.

‘Of course, the real trouble would have come at Christmas dinner when my Dad asked me what the hell I was doing talking to Rudy Giuliani,’ he continued, potentially throwing some shade both at Giuliani and Nunes.

Giuliani has found himself at the center of impeachment controversy for his alleged shadow diplomacy regarding Ukraine.

Earlier this month Giuliani took a trip to Ukraine and Hungary where he met with current and former Ukrainian officials as part of a documentary series he’s producing for conservative media outlet One America News Network.

Last Wednesday the Democrat-controlled House voted, almost along party lines, in favor of two articles of impeachment – abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

However, Democrats are insisting they do not need to immediately send the proceedings to the Senate, where Republicans are in the majority.

‘I feel like we have to start with impeachment, don’t you? I’ve got a lot of problems with all of you people and impeachment,’ Paul said at the start of his Festivus Twitter rant Monday.

‘Take Nancy Pelosi (please). I don’t know if I can stop laughing long enough to air my grievances with Nancy,’ he tweeted.

‘Her new plan is great – she is going to punish the president by NOT sending his impeachment to Senate? Next, maybe she’ll threaten to NOT send us anymore legislation?’ he hopefully posted.

Trump maintains his denial of any wrongdoing, especially when it comes to the July 25 phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart, which is what led to the launch of impeachment proceedings.

Paul made reference to that in his Twitter thread, claiming sarcastically thata Giuliani was Trump’s ‘second best hire’ after now-ousted National Security Advisor John Bolton.

‘It’s his second best hire behind that guy…what’s his name, the guy who kept trying to start all the wars but then got fired on twitter,’ Paul continued.

‘Looking back at that last tweet I probably should narrow that down. Bolton. I’m talking about John Bolton,’ he clarified. ‘Not all the other hawks the President hired, didn’t listen to, got mad at and fired. Neocon Apprentice really wasn’t very well thought out…’

‘Thankfully though, the President usually does listen to his own instincts, which on foreign policy are pretty good. Though if you ask him, he will insist they are PERFECT,’ he tweeted.

Trump often refers to his call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelesnky as ‘perfect,’ defending against Democrats who claim he set a quid pro quo during the July call for release of millions in military aid in exchange for Ukraine opening an investigation into political rival Joe Biden.

‘President Trump grades phone calls the way he scores his golf game, believe me a few mulligans are taken,’ Paul revealed.

Trump is an avid golfer – not unlike many presidents before him.

Currently, the president is vacationing in West Palm Beach, Florida, where his Mar-a-Lago resort is located.

Giuliani and Trump both participated as speakers at the conservative student organization Turning Point USA’s Student Action Summit in West Palm Beach and on Saturday partied at Mar-a-Lago for the president’s studio 54 themed event.
