A driver was handed an astonishing 172 points on his licence after he refused to say who had been driving his Range Rover Sport when it broke the speed limit 27 times along the same stretch of busy dual carrigeway.

Abdful Ayeghbajeje may have thought he could get away with it because his luxury 4×4 was fitted with Belgian number plates.

But police eventually traced him and he was finally caught.

The 37 year-old from Southend, Essex was also banned from driving for three years by the town’s magistrates.

They also imposed fines totalling £17,8230 and ordered him to pay nearly £2,500 in costs.

They handed him a total of 172 points for the offences which were committed on the A127 near Southend between October last year and January 2018.

Investigating officer Roy Keyes, of Essex police’s Casualty Reduction Investigation Team, said: ‘Ayeghbajeje’s vehicle was registered in Belgium, so initially it was difficult to track him down.

‘But following some good work and a chance meeting with him during a roads policing operation in Southend, we had all the evidence we needed to bring him to court.’
