Prosecutors say that the the 30-year-old, real name Rakim Meyers, and three members of his entourage had been arrested – just hours after his appearance at a hip-hop festival in Stockholm last night.

He is suspected of severe assault outside a burger restaurant on Sunday night.

Protesting his innocence, A$AP said he and his team were pursued by two men who had ‘kept following us’ four blocks around the Swedish capital.

‘We don’t know these guys and we didn’t want trouble,’ he insisted.

He also released his own video, which showed an angry confrontation with the two men, one of whom accused the rapper’s entourage of breaking his headphones.

The footage shows A$AP’s bodyguard telling the two men to go away – which they seemingly refuse to do.

‘Just for the cameras, we don’t want no problems with these boys, they keep following us,’ the musician says.

At one stage, the two men disappear down a side road but are back moments later, while a woman tries to defuse the tension.

‘I could really beat the s*** out of him,’ one of A$AP’s group is heard to say.

A$AP’s video cuts out before the fight begins, but footage has emerged online showing him picking up one of the men and tossing him to the floor.

His colleagues are then seen kicking and punching the man in the head as he lies on the ground.

According to Swedish media, police have spoken to the man who was hurled to the ground, who had cuts on both his arms.

A$AP was arrested at 1am on Wednesday morning.

‘One person was arrested for assault and three people were arrested for serious assault, and the artist is one of those three,’ a prosecution spokeswoman said.

The rapper was performing in Sweden last night and was due to appear again this evening.

The event promoter has refused to say whether tonight’s performance will go ahead.
