A liar who raped two women he met on Tinder falsely presented himself as an ‘international man of mystery’, claiming he was ex-French military and a sniper.

Ratu Bose, 33, was found guilty in March of three counts of rape and one count of assault for headbutting one of his victims during the attacks, which took place between April 2016 and January 2017.

The case was previously subject to a suppression order preventing any media coverage.

But it can now be revealed that Bose had a habit of ‘hooking up’ with women he met online, immediately moving in with them, and being supported by them.

His ‘hedonistic’ ways continued despite his claims that he was married to a wealthy, older Swiss woman.

After being raped, one of Bose’s victims ran out of her home naked, jumped in her car and drove to a friend for help.

He headbutted his other victim, causing her to bite her tongue, before raping her.

When he found out one of the women had contacted police, he angrily responded: ‘prepare to be famous all over the internet’, claiming he’d posted a video of her on YouTube as payback.

Bose migrated to Australia from Fiji during his school years and has no criminal history before the rapes, but had a subsequent matter in August 2017 for which he served two months in jail.

In that case, Bose assaulted and threatened to kill a woman he also met on Tinder.

The County Court of Victoria was told on Thursday that Bose had no remorse or insight into his offending and still maintained his innocence.

Judge Trevor Wraight accepted Bose had lived internationally and may have had a ‘hedonistic lifestyle’, but was wary in accepting some of the background he’d detailed to his lawyer and a forensic psychologist.

These included claims he’d worked as a sous chef in a five-star Swiss hotel, that his father was a senior employee of the Fijian government and that his mother had worked for the United Nations.

Judge Wraight said the claims were ‘consistent with the way he views himself and presents himself to women on Tinder as an international man of mystery’.

‘He’s a liar, and clearly is and was to these women,’ he said.

The judge described Bose’s offending as ‘angry and violent’, with ‘a complete lack of insight into what he’s doing with these women’.

Lawyer Jarrod Williams said Bose’s prison sentence would likely be a ‘circuit-breaker’, with the rapist coming out older, having completed a number of programs while in custody, and having had ‘a lengthy period of reflection’.

Bose, who has been in custody for more than two years, is due to be sentenced on August 1.
