Ray Hadley and ‘idiot’ Karl Stefanovic feud

They’re both opinionated men who have clashed in the past.

And according to The Daily Telegraph, Today’s Karl Stefanovic, 43, and 2GB personality Ray Hadley, 62, are believed to be feuding again.

The publication reports that Ray skipped appearing on Karl’s breakfast show Tuesday last week, due to him taking offence at Karl’s calls for Australia Day to be moved from January 26.

According to the publication, sources at both Nine and 2GB believe Ray was not impressed by Karl’s comments on Australia Day – which were reportedly delivered on the show on Monday.

Sources said that Ray called Karl a ‘bleeding heart leftie’ and would cancel his next appearance on the show, on Tuesday.

Ray slammed reports of a feud to The Daily Telegraph, saying he had to do an interview last Tuesday when he was off the show, and would not be cancelling his next appearance.

‘There’s no drama between Karl and myself,’ Ray said, with the report being published on Sunday.

Karl ‘confirmed’ to the publication the pair had a small clash over the subject, but said it’s nothing unusual and that they’re still friends.

‘We’ve been mates for 10 years, we’ve been disagreeing for just as long, and now and again Ray tells me I’ve been an idiot,’ Karl said.

‘That’s why I love the fella,’ he added.

Last week – on Wednesday on Today – Karl called for Australia Day to be moved from January 26 to New Year’s Day out of respect for the Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander communities.

Karl addressed the controversial topic with an impassioned speech, arguing that a date change is necessary if the country wants to move forward and heal from its past.

‘If we are to truly follow through with the apology and move forward together, hand in hand, arm in arm, then I believe it must change. So let’s do it together, certainly lets debate it together,’ he said.

On a much lighter note, the 26th is a rubbish day for a party anyway – whoever had a party on the 26th of anything? So, my suggestion is move Australia Day to the 1st of January. That way, we get to combine New Years with another party.’

Karl said his initial response was to leave the date as is, but that after speaking to members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities he ‘changed [his] mind.’

Australia Day is often referred to as ‘Invasion Day’ by many Indigenous people, who say it is not a day of celebration but of mourning.

The date when the First Fleet arrived to colonise Australia in 1788, January 26 has in recent years caused widespread controversy amid calls to ‘change the date’.

‘As hard as some want to ignore it, January 26 marks the day this land changed forever for one of the oldest and most beautiful cultures in the world,’ Karl said.

In July 2014, Ray and Karl clashed live on the Today Show when Karl asked him if he was ‘seeing anyone.’

Ray stormed off after taking offence to the question about his personal life, although the exchange appeared to be in good humour.

Ray and his wife Suzanne were married for 20 years when they announced their separation in 2011.
