Ray Parlour guzzles champagne from an ENORMOUS bottle in a pub, hours before stint on talkSPORT’s Breakfast show… and Arsenal fans tell him to ‘lay off the drink’ for suggesting Burnley’s Sean Dyche becomes their next boss!

  • The 48-year-old posted the video on his social media account at around 10pm
  • He was then up early for a 6am start on Alan Brazil’s Breakfast radio programme

Ray Parlour has been advised to ‘lay off the drink’ by Arsenal fans for suggesting Burnley’s Sean Dyche become their next manager on a breakfast radio show – just hours after guzzling champagne in an Essex pub.

Parlour swigged heavily from a giant bottle of booze at the Rose pub in Brentwood at around 10pm on Thursday evening, just eight hours before Alan Brazil’s Talksport show started at 6am on Friday morning.

And the former Gunners midfielder was criticised on social media, with some blaming his drinking exploits for his comments.

The video, posted on Parlour’s personal Instagram account to his near-90,000 followers, has the caption: ‘Looking forward to the @talksport with @alanbrazilts I think the champagne is off,’ followed by two champagne emojis.

He exclaims: ‘OK Al, Breakfast show tomorrow, but I thought I’d have one for the road,’ before downing from the bottle, with some champagne spurting out of his mouth as he and his friends in the background chuckle.

The 48-year-old, nicknamed the ‘Romford Pele’, then took to Talksport in the early morning to give his thoughts on Dyche, saying he would turn to him if current boss Mikel Arteta was sacked.

He said: ‘Most people would love to see him get a chance at a bigger job, see how he could do with maybe a top six job. How do we know (if Dyche is good enough for that) unless he gets an opportunity?

‘I’m surprised some clubs haven’t gone down that road and said ‘let’s give Sean Dyche a go’ because we know what he’s done at Burnley is unbelievable. He does a great job every single season.

‘Why not? I don’t know if they (Arsenal) would go down that road, but I would. If Arsenal said to me ‘Sean Dyche is the next manager’, I would get behind him and see how we do.’

And fans took to Twitter to joke about how his drinking may have affected his appearance on the show.

One said: ‘Too much champagne last night @RealRomfordPele,’ while a second added: ‘Ray it’s too early to be on the sauce mate’ and another questioned: ‘Has Ray been drinking already’.

A fourth continued: ‘Ray Parlour after downing 5 shots of Johnny Walker,’ another added: ‘Rays (sic) had a few jagers this morning’ and a six concluded: ‘@RealRomfordPele obviously had one too many Cobras now.’
