‘I’d do the same with Timo Werner if he were developing faster than the team at RB Leipzig.’

Nagelsmann, a coach who also has a number of admirers across Europe, was full of superlatives for his player and said he had upped his level to become less predictable for defenders.

‘He’s improved his combination play,’ the 32-year-old said.

”He’s often parked on the left-wing and can create moments of change. Now he moves between spaces and is harder to figure out.’

Werner signed a new deal at Leipzig in the summer, but its believed the new terms included a £25million release clause, allowing Bayern Munich to snatch him up on a cut-price deal.,

Liverpool will offer still competition, however, as it has been reported they are looking for more firepower.

When starting out at Stuttgart, Werner struggled to find rhythm and was nowhere near as prolific as is now at Leipzig, with just 14 goals across three seasons there.

Now flourishing at Leipzig, he has netted 11 goals in 11 Bundesliga games, lifting the team to second in the table, trailing this season’s surprise leader Monchengladbach by four points.

They are on course to repeat their impressive 2016/17 campaign, when they finished as runners up to Bayern Munich after running the German giants extremely close.
