Real Housewives of New Jersey: Jackie Goldschneider eats ice cream for the first time in 20 years

Jackie Goldschneider struggled with her eating disorder on Tuesday night’s The Real Housewives of New Jersey on Bravo but was able to allow herself to have ice cream for the first time in almost 20 years.

Jackie, 45, took her kids for ice cream, after previously telling her eating disorder therapist that she would set a goal for the week for her to get ice cream with her kids and also revealed that she hadn’t allowed herself to have ice cream for almost 20 years.

At the ice cream store with her children, Jackie ordered a small cup of cake batter flavored ice cream. She took a bite and one of the kids said that they didn’t think that she liked it.

‘It’s so good,’ Jackie told her kids. ‘I love it.’

‘This first bite of ice cream was really the first bite of anything I’ve had in the last 18 years that deviated from the rules of how I’m allowed to eat,’ Jackie said in a confessional.

‘I kind of feel like I’m walking off a cliff. There’s a lot of competing voices in my head. Telling me ‘stop now. Stop after three bites.’ And I just kept going.’

She offered her kids a taste of her ice cream and they gave her a taste of theirs.

‘I’ve never been able to participate in getting ice cream with my kids,’ Jackie said in a confessional. ‘I’ve never actually been a part of the adventure. I know it’s such a small thing for so many people but for me this was a real turning point. I ate more ice cream than I have in my entire adult life and enjoyed my time with my kids. I’m proud of myself.’

The episode titled ‘The Horny Hungarians’ opened with Margaret Josephs, 54, talking to her mother Marge Sr. about the details for her 75th Hungarian themed birthday party because her mother was born in Hungary.

Margaret said in a confessional that in 1956 when her mother was only 10-years-old there was an uprising in Hungary called the Hungarian Revolution.

Margaret said when Austria opened up their borders that her mother, her grandmother and grandfather fled in the middle of the night with only the clothes on their back.

‘A few weeks later, they got on an airplane, the first airplane out of Austria, bringing in political refugees to the United States,’ Margaret said. ‘Because they landed on Christmas, President Eisenhower brought my mother a doll.’

‘I’ll tell you who’s not coming, Teresa,’ Margaret. ‘It’s just we don’t need any drama. No, I’m not interested.’

Teresa Giudice, 49, meanwhile, was packing up her house for the move. Dolores Catania, 51, stopped by to pick up items Teresa was donating to the Hilltop Haven Shelter.

Dolores told Teresa that she had seen her ex-David a few times when she went to hospital to check up on her mother. Teresa told her that she needed to get away.

‘Do you know I haven’t been on a vacation since, long before COVID,’ Dolores said. ‘But I don’t have anybody to go with.’

Ilene said she wanted to help Jackie communicate with her husband better. Ilene then asked her about the ‘ice cream challenge.’

Jackie told her about how she took her kids to get ice cream.

‘I didn’t have a problem eating the ice cream,’ Jackie said. ‘Admittedly, I probably ate a little less than half of it. It was fun. They gave me a taste of theirs. They tasted mine.’

‘I did think about it all day and I felt guilty eating it,’ Jackie said. ‘And I thought that a regular person would maybe skip eating something else because they had ice cream. And it took a lot out of me to not compensate for it.’

Ilene told her was choosing not to because she was trying to get healthier.

‘I really am trying to beat this,’ Jackie said. ‘I know I could do it forever until I die and my heart gives out and or end up in a hospital. I know I could. Something would happen to me. You know some people when they get stressed, they eat a lot. And when I get stressed, I stop eating.’

‘That came from a situation where I was fighting heavily with somebody in my group of friends, and my husband was involved in it,’ Jackie said. ‘There was a lot of stress. I just want to make sure I can be okay with food so that I don’t need to keep the peace with people who I’m not at peace with.’

Ilene said they would work together to deal with her emotions so that it won’t get played out with the food. Ilene asked her to think of how she could have a little flexibility with her diet.

‘I’m not going to magically stop counting calories but I think doing something like we did with the ice cream, where I add some things in and just don’t count them,’ Jackie said.

Ilene asked her if she wanted to take the kids for pizza and Jackie said maybe reluctantly.

Sometimes we get involved in some woman issues, and this is what happens,’ Bill said.

‘Maybe it was wrong on my part,’ Joe G said. ‘Sometimes the women have stupid arguments, but we’re not like that so it’s all good?’

‘Good, man,’ Bill said. ‘I’m glad we’re getting to a better place.’

Jennifer looked over and saw that the men were laughing with each other.

‘It looks like they are getting along,’ Jennifer said. ‘I have a feeling it’s going to be a good night tonight.’

‘It’s a great night,’ Margaret said. ‘So glad you came.’

Frank asked the men if they had heard about Dolores’s suggestion of them all taking a fun trip. They said they are up for it.

Dolores told the women she was thinking about going to Nashville. Dolores said she mentioned it to Teresa that other day, and she said she didn’t want to go anywhere without Louie. Melissa asked Margaret if she invited Teresa to this party.

‘No,’ Margaret said.

‘I mean after the softball game,’ Traci said.

Dolores asked what happened at the softball game.

‘She said my ass was jiggling when I went up,’ Margaret said.

‘Yeah she said ‘if Marg was wearing my leggings her ass wouldn’t be so jiggly,’ Traci said.

‘That’s mean,’ Jackie said.

‘If Teresa’s mad, fine,’ Jackie said in a confessional. ‘But body shaming another woman is never okay.’

‘At the end of the day, she insults the way I look, she ruined Traci’s event,’ Margaret said. ‘Making excuses for her does not help her. She puts men on a pedestal, even men that treat her like sh**.’

‘Listen guys, I’m making an explanation,’ Dolores said. ‘She can handle her own, trust me.’

Everyone went into the main dining room to get food.

‘What’s goulash?’ Asked Jennifer. ‘It sounds like something people would eat jail.’

Jackie was overwhelmed with the buffet.

‘I’m still going to put a lot of food on my plate, so people see that I’m eating and of course I’m not going to eat all of the food,’ Jackie said.

‘This is good goulash,’ Jennifer said when they sat down.

‘I’m watching Jennifer like she just doesn’t care,’ Jackie said. ‘She picks up, she eats whatever she wants. Like to me , that’s just such a crazy concept that people can just do that and I can’t wait until I can just do that.’

Joe B. Then escorted Marge Sr. in and the two of them danced while everyone clapped. Margaret then addressed the crown.

‘This is a full circle moment for me, because my mother, a Hungarian immigrant, who rode a bicycle over a border into Austria to escape communism, came to this country at the age of ten with only the clothes on her back,’ Margaret said. ‘And you were a single mother, the best role model, and I just love you so much. You better live to at least 150 because I could never do it without you.’

Margaret said even though she gives her mother a hard time that she was always there for her.

‘She saw that she could triumph over the darkest things in life, and so she never squashed one dream or made me feel less than or made me feel like I couldn’t do anything I wanted to do,’ Margaret said in a confessional. ‘And that made a world of difference.’

Jennifer said it was good to see Margaret be so loving to her mother.

‘It’s become very clear that we both love very hard and obviously would do anything for our families,’ Jennifer said. ‘So I guess I have more in common with her than I thought.’

‘This has been the best night of my life that is after my daughter was born,’ Marge Sr. said to the crowd.

‘The Real Housewives Of New Jersey will return next Tuesday on Bravo.
