  • Real Madrid still have hopes of signing Kylian Mbappe by the end of the window
  • They have reportedly issued an ultimatum to PSG though to sell the French star
  • Madrid could wait until January to sign Mbappe on a free transfer next summer

Real Madrid have reportedly set Paris Saint-Germain an ultimatum to accept a transfer for Kylian Mbappe by Sunday or they will wait until January to sign him on a free.

Los Blancos are keen to sign the French superstar before the end of the transfer window but PSG are digging their heels in as they look to hold off their strong interest.

PSG rejected Madrid’s second offer worth £154m for the 22-year-old and are considering returning for the Frenchman in January.

Real Madrid don’t have long left this transfer window to sign PSG forward Kylian Mbappe

Le Parisien have now reported that the Spanish giants have told PSG to accept a bid for Mbappe by Sunday, otherwise they’ll come back in January when they can sign him on a pre-contract agreement for next summer.

There is not long left for the deal to be completed with the transfer window closing on Tuesday.

Mbappe will also be joining up with the French national squad on Monday for their three World Cup qualifying matches against Bosnia, Ukraine and Finland.

French national coach Didier Deschamps said Mbappe’s situation is ‘not ideal’ but would be ‘conciliatory as is possible’ if his star needs to undergo a medical if the move goes ahead.

Despite PSG landing Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos and Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer, Mbappe is desperate to move to the Bernabeu, with it understood to be his ‘dream’ to play for Los Blancos.

PSG though have repeatedly insisted that their star player is not for sale despite risking losing him on a free next summer with his contract at the club set to expire.

The improved offer, confirmed by the Spanish club to Sportsmail, was tabled on Thursday but club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi responded: ‘Our position is clear. We will not change it or repeat it.’

PSG had previously reacted angrily to Madrid’s first bid on Tuesday of €160m (£137m). Sporting Director Leonardo accused the 13 times European Cup holders of ‘illegal and disrespectful behaviour’.
