Real Madrid want ‘Kylian Mbappe or nobody’ as they make PSG striker their sole target

Real Madrid want ‘Kylian Mbappe or nobody’ as they make him their sole target before his deal ends in 2022… with Erling Haaland an option if PSG striker sees out his contract

  • Real Madrid are solely focusing on signing Kylian Mbappe, a report has claimed
  • Mbappe’s PSG deal ends in 2022 and the transfer window closes on September 1
  • Los Blancos are said to have no interest in Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski
  • Borussia Dortmund prodigy Erling Haaland is an option if Mbappe stays at PSG

Real Madrid are determined to snap up PSG prodigy Kylian Mbappe before the transfer window closes and have dropped their interest in other top strikers to focus on signing him, according to reports.

France hotshot Mbappe is out of contract in 2022 and has repeatedly been linked with a move to the Bernabeu, where bosses are now said to be aiming all of their efforts on capturing the World Cup winner before his deal ends.

PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino and sporting director Leonardo have both claimed that Mbappe is staying at the Parc des Princes, although the 22-year-old shows no signs of signing a new contract that would secure his long-term future with the Ligue 1 giants.

That has kept the door ajar for Madrid to pounce, with Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti turning down opportunities to sign Lyon playmaker Houssem Aouar and Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni in order to concentrate on his key transfer target, according to Marca.

Madrid are in a position to test PSG’s resolve by bidding for Mbappe with some of the £250 million they are thought to have raised through sales including the departures of Martin Odegaard to Arsenal and Raphael Varane to Manchester United.

The Spanish outlet says that Borussia Dortmund phenomenon Erling Haaland could be an option for Madrid if Mbappe stays at PSG, having already held talks with the club through his agent, Mino Raiola, in April.

The end of the transfer window on September 1 gives Madrid under two weeks to complete their business, with the club reportedly adopting an attitude of ‘Mbappe or nobody’.

Ancelotti is said to have no interest in Bayern Munich goal machine Robert Lewandowski, who is widely reported to be seeking a new challenge away from the Bundesliga champions.

The Madrid manager also took the unusual step of personally dismissing a move for Juventus talisman Cristiano Ronaldo this week, taking to Twitter to insist he has ‘never considered’ trying to return the Portugal captain to the club where he spent nine hugely successful years.

Discussing Mbappe ahead of PSG’s trip to Brest tonight, Pochettino said:  ‘I see that he is motivated, working hard to making this a great season.

‘He is our player and I don’t see him not being here this season. He has a year left on his contract, even if he doesn’t renew it, and he has demonstrated to me that he is happy with us here.

‘He is calm and the club knows what they’re going to do. We know he is our player and that he is preparing for our match.’

‘As long as the transfer market is open, there will be many rumours circulating.’
