Redcliffe State High School students caught ‘drinking windshield washer fluid mixed with Gatorade’

A group of teenagers were treated by paramedics after ingesting a form of poison.

Paramedics were called to Redcliffe State High School, in Brisbane’s north-east, just before 12pm on Tuesday.

A spokeswoman from Queensland Ambulance Services told Daily Mail Australia paramedics rushed to an address off Klingner Road in Redcliffe.

Paramedics then assessed five students in the school grounds, with another student transported to hospital for an unrelated medical condition.

According to the Courier Mail, parents on social media said the visit from paramedics was due to an alleged poisoning incident.

‘My kid came home and told me that a kid mixed lighter fluid with Gatorade and gave it to several others to drink at second break,’ one parent stated.

Another said her child was offered the same drink, but said no.  

It has since been confirmed the students in question ingested diluted windscreen wiper liquid.

The Department of Education said the school has launched an investigation into the matter.

‘The department is aware of an incident involving a small number of students ingesting diluted windscreen wiper liquid at Redcliffe State High School on 26 October 2021,’ a statement sent to Daily Mail Australia read.

‘Staff immediately contacted the Queensland Ambulance Service to attend and assess the students. No students were taken to hospital.

‘Parents and the school community were notified of the incident that day and provided with support options, including access to the school Guidance Officer for those who required it.

‘The school is investigating and will apply disciplinary consequences where appropriate. Due to student privacy no further information can be provided.’
