Temperatures are set to soar to 78F (26C) in the south of the UK today as the north sees temperatures cool after a week of rising mercury — but rain could be on the way in London later, forecasters have warned.
As thousands of revellers flock to Wireless Festival, Pride and Wimbledon today many are hoping for bright, sunny skies. But spots of rain could dampen spirits later this afternoon, according to the Met Office.
Temperatures are expected to reach 69F (21C) in London this morning as Andy Murray (GBR) and Serena Williams (USA) take on Andreas Mies (GER) and Alexa Guarachi (CHI) in a doubles match on Wimbledon’s court 17 from 11am.
And when ‘Bestie’ rapper Yungen takes to Wireless Festival’s main stage at 2.15pm the mercury is could soar as far as 78F (27C) according to one forecaster.

But as Pride celebrations continue in to this evening in Trafalgar Square rain could slightly dampen spirits as spots of rain could hit the capital by 7pm when temperatures may fall to 66F (21C).
‘Today we’ve got cloud and rain across central UK which will be gradually pushing its way south. In the North there’ll be sunny weather and showers in the far north of Scotland,’ a Met Office Forecaster said.
‘Southern counties will enjoy another fine day with highs of 78F (26C) and 80F (27C) towards the south coast.
‘Southampton will probably see the highest temperatures. Even London could see 75F (24C) with a bit more cloud coming in.
‘There’s a change of a few spots of rain reaching Wimbledon by the end of the day and for Pride it looks like it should be fine, bright and sunny weather with a few spots of rain later.’

And tomorrow temperatures will cool in the north of the country as wind brings the mercury down across the north east with highs of just 59F (15C).
The forecaster added: ‘Tomorrow most places are going to be dry and relatively warm with sunny spells. It will be windier and cooler across the north east.
‘There will be bit more cloud at first across the south east which may perhaps being rain and drizzle but this should break up by the morning. There will be fine weather with a few showers around.’

And in to next week the weather is expected to become more changeable as thunder hits by Wednesday bringing heavy showers and rising humidity.
‘There’s a lot of fine, warm and humid weather next week but it will be changeable. Monday will be mostly dry with a few showers but mostly warm,’ the forecaster said.
‘On Tuesday southern parts should have a fine and warm day. Rain will be pushing eastwards, central and northern.
‘On Wednesday showers will be on the heavy side with a risk of thunder. There’s a similar picture for Thursday. It will be showery. Things are generally staying warm and humid with temperatures at around low to mid 20s.’
