Nestled below the Taurus mountains, this luxury resort appears to be the perfect place to unwind and gaze out over the blue waters of the Mediterranean.

But not for John Bercow, it seems. He has been colluding with Brexit rebels while on a family holiday at the all-inclusive four-star hotel in the south of Turkey.

The Daily Mail can reveal the Speaker of the House of Commons has been sunning himself in 33C (91F) heat all week at the Club Med Palmiye, where a seven-night stay costs at least £1,000 per person.

It is a far cry from the family hotel in north Devon where he and his wife Sally, 49, and their three young children used to spend their summer holidays.

Earlier this week, Mr Bercow, 56, condemned the idea to shut down Parliament for a week longer than usual as a ‘constitutional outrage’ while apparently relaxing in the luxury resort.

Though declining to comment any further because he was on holiday, it was reported yesterday that he had continued lobbying behind the scenes.

The Remainer politician was said to have been in contact with MPs – including Tory rebel Sir Oliver Letwin – to try to put a stop to Boris Johnson’s decision to prorogue Parliament.

It is understood he did so while staying with his family at the Club Med Palmiye, in Turkey’s Antalya province.

With banana trees to bougainvillea lining the resort, guests can stay in a range of suites overlooking the beach and enjoy a host of activities, from tennis to water skiing, along the 1,500m beach.

They can also unwind at the spa and wellness centre before dining at any of the four restaurants offering ‘international gourmet delights’.

According to a source, two of Mr Bercow’s children have already returned to Britain while his wife Sally left yesterday morning. On Wednesday, Mr Bercow said he had not been consulted by the Prime Minister over his intention to prorogue Parliament.

In a statement, he said: ‘I have had no contact from the Government, but if the reports that it is seeking to prorogue Parliament are confirmed, this move represents a constitutional outrage.

‘However it is dressed up, it is blindingly obvious that the purpose of prorogation now would be to stop Parliament debating Brexit and performing its duty in shaping a course for the country.’

He added: ‘At this early stage in his premiership, the Prime Minister should be seeking to establish rather than undermine his democratic credentials.’

Last night a spokesman for the House of Commons said they could not comment.
