A Canadian family got a big shock when a hammerhead shark interrupted their boating trip over Memorial Day.

Corrine Lough was boating with her family near Florida’s Anna Maria Island on Monday, intent on cooling off in the ocean, when she saw the shark’s telltale profile just feet away from their boat.

Lough posted the eerie video on Facebook, writing, ‘When a #hammerheadshark is circling your boat, you go somewhere else to swim…’

In the clip, a large hammerhead shark can be seen in the crystal clear water as it takes a lap around the boat.

When asked why there was no sound on the video in the comments, Lough wrote that there was a reason for that, but didn’t elaborate. She also noted that the family had planned to go wake boarding, but quickly changed their minds after seeing the predator.

Lough told WILX that their boat was just 300-feet away from the shore when they encountered the circling beast.

She said she first thought it was a dolphin, but revised that opinion fairly quickly.

Lough said that the shark eventually swam away, leaving the family in peace.

She told ABC Action News that seeing the shark was ‘a very cool experience.’
