Atletico Madrid’s Renan Lodi has joined Nottingham Forest on a season-long loan deal.

The newly-promoted Premier League side will pay an initial £4.7million loan fee to the La Liga side, with a further option to make the move permanent for £25million at the end of the season.

Lodi is keen to play in the English top-flight after three mixed years at Madrid that have seen the understudy left-back struggle for continuous game time under boss Diego Simeone.

The 24-year-old has made 118 appearances during three seasons in Spain, often coming off the bench, but is keen to play a starting role for Forest as he targets a place in the Brazil World Cup squad.

Nottingham Forest have been the league’s biggest shakers in the summer transfer window after whipping out the chequebook on numerous occasions to bring 17 new players to the club as they look to avoid relegation back to the Championship.

The likes of Jesse Lingard, Chiekhou Kouyate, Neco Williams, Morgan Gibbs-White, Taiwo Awoniyi and Wayne Hennessey have all joined with Lodi joining as the club’s 18th summer signing.

Boss Steve Cooper has already signed two left-backs this summer in Harry Toffolo and Omar Richards during the window, meaning Lodi will face stiff competition to nail-down his place in the starting side.

Madrid were willing to let Lodi go after they agreed to sign Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon as the 24-year-old’s replacement.
