Report: S Nelson returning to Raiders on one-year deal

Reggie Nelson is staying with the Raiders on a one-year deal, according to a report by Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Nelson, 34, has started at safety in Oakland the last two seasons, hauling in six interceptions and making 110 tackles.

He will reunite with a familiar face in new defensive coordinator Paul Guenther, recently hired by new Raiders coach Jon Gruden.

Guenther was the defensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals when Nelson had his best season with the team in 2015. Guenther was involved with the defense in some aspect of Nelson’s six-year run with the Bengals.

That year, Nelson picked off eight passes and earned a Pro Bowl nod.

For his career, Nelson has 36 interceptions and 593 tackles since entering the league as the 21st overall pick in 2007 by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Nelson spent his first three season with Jacksonville before being traded to the Cincinnati Bengals in 2010. He resigned with the Bengals as a free agent in 2012.
