Republican Scott Baio has launched an extraordinary attack on children’s book author Laurel Snyder after she was invited to speak at his daughter’s California private school on Monday.

The former Happy Days star, 58, who is a staunch supporter of President Trump, described Snyder as ‘vile’ for her tweets critical of the Commander-in-chief.

Taking to his own Twitter account, Baio wrote: ‘This vile person spoke to my child and other children today at her school. See how she teaches her children to hate and disrespect people like President Trump and FLOTUS!’

He added the hashtags ‘classless’and trash’.

Baio, who is father to 11-year-old daughter daughter Bailey, has been a registered Republican for decades, and famously spoke at the Republican National Convention in 2016.

Snyder, meanwhile, is an acclaimed author of six children’s novels including the best-selling National Book Award nominee Orphan Island.

Baio took issue with several of the tweets Snyder has previously shared with her 9,800 Twitter followers.

In February of this year she tweeted that Trump’s State of the Union address was ‘mostly echoes of the Holocaust’.

She then tweeted: ‘My kids are speculating whether @realDonaldTrump insisted Melania dye herself orange so that he could look normal by comparison’.

After Baio’s Twitter attack on Snyder, many quickly sprang to the writer’s defense.

One asked the Hollywood actor: ‘She’s an author. She came to the school to discuss her (non-political) writing for young people, not her social media posts. Why harass for literally no reason? Good God, man, get a hobby.’

Snyder thanked those who rallied around her, writing on Twitter Wednesday: ‘I want to thank everyone in the #kidlit world (and  beyond) for the support. We really have an incredible community, and I feel blessed to be part of it. I haven’t been able to keep up with all the back channels, & can’t reply to everyone right now. But it all mattered so much.’

Last year, Baio hit headlines after he was accused of sexual assaulting his former Charles In Charge co-star, Nicole Eggert, back in the 1980s.

Baio vehemently denied the allegations, and the Los Angeles country district attorney’s office declined to file a criminal case as Eggert’s accusations were beyond the statute of limitations.
