She told the news outlet: ‘I am not guilty of these crimes. In this country I am innocent until proven guilty and that is the law.’

‘If I was guilty of crimes, I would never run for public office, putting myself in the public eye under a microscope to be attacked by all political sides,’ she added.

The special education teacher is accused of stealing 279 products with a value of $2,327.97 from a Target store in Edina, which is south-west of Minneapolis, on January 8.

She was arrested over the alleged crime after security officers called the police.

Stella reportedly left the business and only scanned a few items that had a value of $50, according to a criminal complaint seen by The Guardian.

She allegedly told police that she ‘remembers arriving at Target to purchase items but nothing else’ as she had post-traumatic stress disorder.

She added that she ‘normally she goes to Target with someone because of anxiety around people.’

An arrest warrant was issued for Stella for alleged contempt of court on April 4 after she failed to show up for a court hearing in the January 8 Target case, the paper reported, citing police and court records.

According to the Guardian, she was later arrested on April 28 in Bloomington after she was allegedly seen by security staff at a Cub Foods grocery store stealing a bottle of tick spray for cats.

Officers later found out about the warrant for her arrest over her failure to appear in court for the alleged shoplifting incident on January 8.

She was arrested for alleged misdemeanor theft for stealing cat products with a vlue of $40.46, according to The Guardian. It remains uncertain as to whether officials will follow up the contempt of court accusation.
