  •  Chamey the Chameleon escaped from his home in Los Angeles, California
  • A team of pet rescuers from Smart LA were sent to the scene to assist
  • Two workers rappelled down the side of the five-storey building to save Chamey
  • The lizard was soon reunited with his worried owners following the rescue

These are the amazing scenes as a pair of Los Angeles rescue workers rappel down the side of a building to safely remove a chameleon who had become stuck.

The chameleon was trapped high above the city streets and its worried owners were not able to entice him back inside.

In the past, the team from SMART LA have rescued iguanas as well as many other types of pets.

This is the moment a group of rescue workers prepared to launch themselves over the side of a five-story building in Los Angeles to rescue a chameleon who is called Chamey

The team went down both sides of the building to trap the chameleon who was on the corner

Armando Navarrette of SMART LA said his team, Hoang Dinh and Ramon Garcia could not safely secure the chameleon while leaning out the window.

Instead, the pair decided to use ropes and head to the building’s roof and make their way down.

Navarette said the chameleon, called Chamey, was safely reunited with its owners: ‘Some of the dangers or worries with this type of rescue is that the animal moves out of reach or falls.

‘Chameleons arent like cats for example, that can most-likely land on their feet.

‘Patience is always a preferred tool.

‘Our team had rescued a chameleon and a few iguanas from trees in the past, but never from the side of a building five stories up.’

Luckily the team were able to recover Chamey safely and return him to his owners
