Respected MSU physicist facing up to 15-years in jail after ‘sodomizing a basset hound’

Michigan State University has been rocked by another sex scandal as a resident pharmacist is charged with bestiality.

Just a few months after doctor Larry Nassar was jailed for 175 sexually abusing underage patients, MSU physicist Joseph Hattey, 51, was accused of sodomizing a basset hound with his hand and penis.

Hattey is facing up to 15 years in jail if he is found guilty on both charges of bestiality.

It does not appear that Hattey, a health physicist at the university for the past two years, performed any of the alleged sexual acts on the dog on the campus.

The animal has been seized and is now with Ingham County Animal Control, the Daily Beast reports.

The suspect, who worked as a radiation-safety technologist for more than four years before he became a physicist, also worked at the school’s Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.

The laboratory aims to ‘protect the public by ensuring the health of animals in the state of Michigan and around the nation’ by investigating and studying ‘animal and public health issues,’ according to the Beast.

Michigan Attorney General’s office confirmed the dog was not owned by the university.

MSU added that Hattey did not work with ‘students, patients or animals’ in his physicist role. He had been on ‘administrative suspension’ since the university was alerted to the investigation into him in April

‘The university has been and will continue to cooperate with law enforcement officials on this matter. MSUPD is providing digital forensic support in the investigation,’ MSU’s statement continued.

The appalling charges come after the university was accused of covering up for former director of sports and former Olympic gymnastics team doctor, Larry Nassar.

He was accused of sexual assault by more than 150 women, including several Team USA gymnasts.

‘This is one of the largest and most prestigious public universities in the country, and they’ve engaged in the systemic protection of a child molester,’ attorney John Manly, who was representing a majority of the victims, told Fox News in November.

‘Clearly Michigan State has a culture of secrecy.’

Lawyers said at least seven victims said they reported Nassar to the school during his tenure between 1997-2015 but Title IX mandatory reporting laws were not carried out until 2014. Lawyers claim even then they were not properly followed, which allowed him to continue working.

Michigan State University has strongly denied any suggestions of a cover up.

Nassar was sentenced to 175 yeas in jail in January for the charges.

William Strampel, the former Dean of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University, is accused of enabling Nassar’s behavioru as well as using his position to sexually assault, harass and proposition female students.

He is due in court Tuesday for the start of his preliminary exam.
