  • Retired Geelong star has exchanged videos with cheeky toddler Ted Ellis

Retired Geelong AFL great Joel Selwood has been ‘exposed’ for labelling a toddler a ‘dog’ on Twitter – but the exchanges were anything but aggressive – in fact, they were hilarious.

The champion midfielder, 34 – who this week announced he is hanging up his boots after guiding the Cats to another flag last Saturday at the MCG versus the Sydney Swans – is one of the nice guys in the AFL.

Dating back three years, Selwood has engaged in back and forth Twitter banter with Ted Ellis, the cheeky son of media identity and former Hawthorn star Xavier Ellis.

In the series of clips, young Ted has repeatedly told the four-time premiership winner he proudly follows the GWS Giants – and often called out Selwood and the Cats.

The one-club player, who made his debut in 2007 and chalked up 355 appearances, has taken the ribbing in his stride – and also been quick to put the youngster back in his place.

Among the better exchanges include Selwood playfully declaring ‘the Giants suck’ and ‘go the Cats’ before adding the toddler was ‘wearing a rubbish orange (GWS) jumper.’

Not one to hold back in another clip, Ted labelled Selwood a ‘slow coach’ to which the classy midfielder responded by stating he would ‘end up in jail’ if he made further references to the mobility of the veteran Geelong star.

Leading into last weekend’s grand final, Ted was up to his old tricks, informing Selwood ‘the Cats suck.’

Eventually Ted came round, spotted in a Cats jersey days before Selwood’s team handed the Swans a football lesson on the biggest stage.

The clip concludes with Selwood confirming he is retiring, as he is ‘too old and too slow’ to which Teddy responds ‘don’t get fat like my dad.’

Selwood declared he was hanging up his boots earlier this week after a glittering career chasing a Sherrin.

A third pick in the 2005 national draft, Selwood bided his time ahead of his 2007 debut and was an instant star with the Cats.

Premierships followed in 2007, 2009 and 2011 – before his fourth at the MCG – as captain – in one of the more dominant team performances seen in recent years – last Saturday.

Selwood is also a six-time All Australian and holds the record for the most career AFL finals appearances, with 40 games.

He and wife Brit recently announced they are expecting their first child after trying to conceive for a number of years.

‘Our dreams have come true. Brit and I are grateful to be able to share we have a little one coming into the world,’ Selwood wrote on Instagram.

‘We look forward to being ‘Mum and Dad’ and the world changing for us in the near future.

‘What I have worked out through this process is that women are amazing and my wife is a superwoman. In a journey that hasn’t been easy, we have found a way, through great support and Brit staying positive.

‘To couples, who are trying, have tried or can’t have a baby for some unfair reason, we see you and are sending love and positive energy your way.

‘We can’t wait to meet you Baby Selwood, you will be very loved.’
