A retired IBM manager who was busted for DUI has blamed President Donald Trump for driving him to drink before taking to the streets in his golf buggy.

Cary DeVan, 82, was arrested 90 minutes after Trump finished his 32-minute coronavirus briefing last Thursday.

DeVan, who was the Global Service Planning Manager at IBM Global Solutions in North Carolina for 16 years between 1994 and 2010, was caught by police in Florida after he wrecked the vehicle.

The red golf cart was found a mile outside of The Villages complex where he lives.

The axle broke and the windshield got dislodged after he went over a concrete curb.

DeVan wasn’t injured in the accident but when police made contact with him he was slurring his words and was unsteady on his feet, they claim.

They also believed he was intoxicated because he smelled of alcohol and was unable to successfully complete a field sobriety test.

DeVan blew almost double the blood alcohol limit of .8, the Smoking Gun reported.

He explained to a cop that he had been drinking vodka because he ‘was watching President Trump on TV then got really mad at what he said.’

It’s unclear what made him angry but that evening Trump had appeared on screen for more than half an hour talking about the coronavirus pandemic.

More than 4 million people have been infected and hundreds of thousands have died.

However Trump began the briefing by addressing the death of Herman Cain who he said ‘passed away from the thing called the China virus.’

Cain died from COVID-19 that day after becoming infected after attending Trump’s unpopular rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma where face masks were merely optional and lack of social distancing appear not to be a concern.

Trump also expressed no regrets about the way the pandemic has been handled, despite Florida now being the second worst affected state in the country, and despite the country having the highest number of infections on the planet.

‘We did the right thing initially. We saved millions of lives, what we did. We did the right thing,’ Trump insisted at the July 30 briefing.

While the pandemic puts the elderly especially at risk of serious illness or death, the leader also tried to discourage mail-in voting for the November presidential election, claiming it would ‘lead to the greatest fraud.’

DeVan’s record doesn’t state any party affiliation.

The arrest report didn’t state what Trump said or did that prompted his alcohol consumption and subsequent getting behind the wheel.

The elderly man was booked into Sumter County jail on the misdemeanor count and was released the following morning after posting $1000 bond.
