Former Sgt Derek Seekings, 64, is accused of having raped a woman seven times over a seven year period
A 64-year-old retired police officer appeared in court today charged with raping the same woman seven times over a six year period including once while he was on duty.
Derek Seekings was charged with seven counts of historical rape of a woman between 1994 and 2000.
The former officer, who retired from the force in 2005, was accused of committing seven offences – six while off-duty and one on duty.
The well dressed former Surrey police sergeant, of Farnborough, Hants., appeared before Guildford Magistrates Court this morning.
Speaking directly to him, Magistrate Jane Bak said: ‘We are going to send this matter to the Crown Court. This means you must appear for this offence.
‘You have been granted unconditional bail but if you do not appear you are committing an offence and you will be arrested and sent to jail.’
Seekings was set to appear at Guildford Crown Court for his indictable only charges on September 16 where he was expected to enter a plea.
He appeared in front of Guildford magistrates today and will be tried at Crown Court later this year
A spokesman from Surrey police said: ‘A man has been charged with seven counts of rape.
‘The offences were alleged to have been committed against one woman in Surrey between 1994 and 2000 by a former Surrey Police sergeant who retired from the force in 2005.
‘Of the seven offences, six are alleged to have taken place off-duty and one on duty.
‘Derek Winston Seekings, aged 64 years from Farnborough is to appear before court.’
