RFK’s son, 52, and granddaughter, 22, arrested

The son and granddaughter of Robert F Kennedy have both been arrested on charges of disorderly conduct in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts.

Matthew ‘Max’ Kennedy, 52, and his daughter Caroline, 23, were arrested this weekend after cops busted a loud party at 172 Irving Avenue, close to the Kennedys’ Cape Cod compound.

‘It’s if noise is audible for a distance of 150 feet away,’ Barnstable Police Lt John Murphy told the Boston Herald. ‘It’s a loud party statute, that’s what it’s used for.’

The pair were asked to turn down their music at around 1am Sunday, and when they refused they were taken into custody, CapeCod.com reported.

No-one else was arrested at the party, which also received complaints about fireworks, Murphy said.

He added that the the law was punishable by a $100 fine and arrest.

If found guilty, they will not face jail time, as neither of them has a criminal record, police said.

Both Kennedys were released on their own recognizance the night they were arrested, and Max Kennedy was arraigned in Barnstable District Court on Monday.

His pretrial hearing on the disorderly conduct charge is set for November 22.

Caroline Kennedy’s arraignment has been set for the same date. It’s unclear why she was not arraigned around the same time as her father.

The property does not belong to the Kennedys – although Max lives elsewhere in Hyannis Port.

It is a nine-bedroom rental home known as the ‘Judy Garland House’ after the actress, who used to spend her summers there.

The party was held here, at a home once used by Judy Garland on her summer holidays. Locals had complained about the noise and fireworks, and police asked them to turn the volume down

Max Kennedy is probably best known for the book he wrote about his grandfather, ‘Make Gentle the Life of This: The Vision of Robert F Kennedy.’

He is one of nine children born to RFK and Ethel Kennedy.

His arrest, and that of his daughter, comes eight months after his nephew – Conor Kennedy, son of RFK Jr – was arrested.

Conor Kennedy, an ex-boyfriend of Taylor Swift, was charged with disorderly conduct after he punched a man outside a nightclub on December 29 in Aspen.

However, he avoided going to court after agreeing to a plea deal that saw him given a six-month deferred sentence.

The Kennedy compound was purchased by Joseph P. Kennedy Sr, father of RFK and John F Kennedy, in 1928. It was expanded upon, but the original structure was built in 1904.
