Rhianne Winnall dragged along the ground by moped muggers in Hull

A cheerleader was dragged along the ground during a terrifying robbery by two moped-riding yobs.

Rhianne Winnall, 20, was waiting for a friend outside a Tesco Express in Hull on Sunday night at around 8.15pm when she was attacked.

The culprits mounted the pavement to snatch Ms Winnall’s bag from her grasp, which led to her being tugged along the floor and hauled into the middle of the busy road.

Ms Winnall said: ‘I didn’t see them coming. I had my back to them and I heard them but then the next thing I knew I was on the floor.

‘I ended up in the middle of the road and I got concussion as well as bruises on my leg, lower back and all over my arms.

‘I was incredibly shaken up. I didn’t really understand what had happened and then someone picked me up and carried me into Tesco and I was just in hysterics crying.’

The mugging left the University of Hull student concussed, bruised, and traumatised, and she had to be taken to Hull Royal Infirmary for treatment.

She stayed on a ward for five hours after suffering a bang to the head, which was diagnosed as concussion, and multiple bruises.

She admitted the incident has left her too scared to walk down Newland Avenue on her own.

‘It was terrifying,’ said the biomedical science student. ‘I don’t walk around anywhere by myself anymore.

‘I’ve heard of things like this happening but I always thought it happened down the side streets and not directly on Newland Avenue.

‘Absolutely everything was in my bag. I had just been to a cheerleading competition so I had my cheerleading kit, my passport, my ID, my keys, sunglasses – everything in there.’

She is still recovering from a host of ‘painful’ injuries and wants the culprits to understand just how much the attack has traumatised her.

‘For what they took it wasn’t worth it,’ she said. ‘It has really put a dampener on the area for me.

‘The physical and emotional pain they’ve caused is disgusting and it just wasn’t worth it.’

Ms Winnall said she could not get a clear view of the assailants as she had her back to them when they targeted her.

Humberside Police have released an appeal to help find the culprits behind the moped robbery.

Anyone with information should call Humberside Police on 101.
