RHOM: Anjali Rao’s suburban home is revealed; she doesn’t live in swanky apartment

The Real Housewives of Melbourne star Anjali Rao has revealed that the sprawling six-star apartment she lived in on the show is not her real home.

The former CNN newsreader, 47, confirmed on Instagram the swanky pad in South Yarra’s Capitol Grand was just leased for four months while she filmed the series.

In her day-to-day life, Daily Mail Australia can reveal that Rao resides in a fairly regular $530-a-week rented property in an outer suburb.

And instead of luxury limousines and chauffeured BMWs, she drives a 2007 Holden Astra worth about $6,000.

While her suburban quarters aren’t quite as fancy as her luxury lodgings at the Capitol Grand, she’s not exactly on struggle street either.

Her home has four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a two-car garage.

However, some of the outdated fixtures and fittings don’t appear to be up the glamorous standards of the Foxtel reality show.

This could be why she decided to lease a ritzy apartment for the TV series.

She wrote on Instagram this week: ‘Whilst I leased my beautiful apartment at the incredible Capitol Grand for the four-month duration of filming The Real Housewives of Melbourne, I, like certain other Housewives over the years, reside elsewhere in my normal life. So what?’

In an episode of The Real Housewives of Melbourne, Rao referred to the Capitol Grand apartment as ‘my stunning home’ and ‘my queendom’.

Situated at the crossroads of Toorak Road and Chapel Street, the Capitol Grand is right in the heart of stylish South Yarra.

The luxury development features a communal lounge, gym, library, cinema room, meeting and dining areas, spa, pool and massage rooms.

Rao’s apartment has become a major storyline this season, after co-star Kyla Kirkpatrick accused Janet Roach of trying to ‘break in’ to the six-star lodgings to see if Rao really lived there or not.

‘Kyla tells me that on the day of my pool party, Janet broke into my apartment to try to discredit me, to try to prove that I’m a fraud,’ Rao said on the show.

‘Yeah I really live here. All my s**t is here; it has been for three months,’ she added.

Rao quit the show shortly thereafter, claiming the other women engaged in ‘fake fights’ and that reality TV is ‘manufactured’.

Fellow Housewife Jackie Gillies has since shot down rumours of the alleged break-in, insisting was all made up by Kirkpatrick.

‘This bulls**t about Janet breaking into the apartment, this is a mess,’ Gillies said on her Shine It Up podcast.

‘Janet never broke into anybody’s apartment. I’ve already said this before.

‘It’s utter bulls**t, it never happened… Kyla, you’ve made that up. She was never in Anjali’s apartment.’

Roach also denied the allegations, calling them ‘preposterous’ in an Instagram post.

Prior to appearing on The Real Housewives of Melbourne, Rao worked as an anchor for CNN International in Hong Kong from 2006 to 2012.

During her time at the network, she interviewed big names like former U.S. president Bill Clinton, actress, Gwyneth Paltrow, rapper Kanye West, late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld and even the Dalai Lama.

‘I absolutely raked it in at CNN,’ she boasted during her first scene on the show.

‘I had everything, I was loaded,’ she added. ‘I had my three yachts, boat staff, and four club memberships. My child had his own maid and I could fly off anywhere around the world whenever I wanted.’

The journalist then admitted she ‘lost it all’ following her divorce and had to start again in Australia from scratch.

She has become one of the more divisive characters on The Real Housewives of Melbourne this season, and has often blasted her co-stars, including Roach and Gamble Breaux, in her confessionals and media interviews.

‘Janet and Gamble have achieved nought point nought per cent of the square root of bugger all of note in their lives,’ she snapped in her final episode.

‘I don’t consider pulling a couple of old rich dudes to be notable and that’s all they’ve got.’

Speaking to the Unpopular podcast in August before the season premiered, Roach said that Rao ‘couldn’t keep up’ with the glitz and glamour of the show.

‘She’s not a bad girl, but the real truth, let’s really get down to it,’ Janet said.

‘I think she was who she said she was, but she was never gonna be a Housewife. I’m just being honest.

‘She couldn’t keep up with times, she couldn’t keep up with outfits,’ she continued.

‘I think she’s running around and saying, “Oh it’s fake and it’s not for me.” When the fact of the matter is, I worked with her, she couldn’t keep up.

‘She struggled all the way through,’ Janet added.

Janet also said that another cast member told her that Anjali ‘was terrified of being exposed’ on the show.

‘I said, “Terrified of being exposed for what?” But we never got there… because we never got that far because she decided that she didn’t want to do it anymore.’

The Real Housewives of Melbourne’s fifth season is available to watch on Foxtel and Binge
