Richard E. Grant has revealed his ‘bum was bleeding’ during a ‘heavy duty’ hose riding session in France which caused him to be injured.
The actor, 64, was staying with King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla when the incident occurred during a lesson.
And worse still, he tried to hide his bloodied underpants on top of a wardrobe, but someone mysteriously found them and washed them, leaving his dying of shame.
Richard appeared on This Morning on Thursday to speak about his new memoir which is dedicated to his late wife Joan Washington.

While asking about the new book, Phillip Schofield said: ‘This is an incredibly honest, beautiful book with some really funny stories. So I mean we do have to mention your horse riding and you had been damaged whilst learning to horse ride in France.’
Richard responded: ‘We were invited to stay with now King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla but this was in 2001.
‘This horse riding had been so heavy duty that my bum was bleeding and so when I got changed Joan said to me, “your bum is bleeding everywhere”.

He continued: ‘It looked like I had been whupped! So I said what do I do with these boxers that I have. There was a very high wardrobe so I threw them on top of that.
‘The next day everything has been washed and so they had been freshly laundered on the bed. I died of embarrassment and of course then I was paranoid.
He then recalled that Joan said: ‘The people in the laundry would have thought that pair, actor and dialect coach, you know S&M he’s getting beaten in the bed.’
Reminiscing on a more serious memory of meeting Charles and Camilla, Richard said: ‘They came to see us just before Joan died and he said it’s been an absolute honour to have known you and she said, “I’m still here”.
‘They couldn’t have been kinder. I think he’ll be a passionate king.’

Richard’s wife Joan tragically passed away in September aged 74 eight months after she was diagnosed with lung cancer.
The couple married in 1986 and share a daughter, Olivia, and a stepson, Tom, from Washington’s previous relationship.
In February, the Withnail and I star shared a heartwarming snap of himself and his late spouse as he marked the first Valentine’s Day since her death.
The sweet image saw the actor and the dialect coach sharing a tender moment as they gently touched heads, while a red heart was drawn around the pair.
Allowing the photo to do the talking, Richard captioned the photos without words, but added a plethora of red hearts as a symbol of the adoration he had for his beloved.
Speaking in December, the actor also opened up about spending his first Christmas without his beloved wife and partner of 38 years.
He said he was feeling ‘sentimental’ in the run-up to the festive period, which he said is his favourite time of year.

Speaking to Radio Times ahead of his first festive period as a widower, he noted: ‘It’s a sentimental time of year. I’ve kept every decoration our daughter made for the tree when she was a child and adolescent.’
Following his wife’s passing in September, Richard thanked well-wishers for their support – as he said grief had hit him ‘like a tsunami’.
He shared a montage of family photos on Twitter with the message: ‘Overwhelmed by the messages of love, condolence & support we have received from loved ones & strangers from all over the world & the appreciation from actors Joan taught over the years.
‘Grief hits us like tsunamis as we try and put one foot in front of the other without her.’
