‘As you can see we are all mostly recovered…’: Richard Gere’s wife Alejandra shares new photos of 73-year-old actor as they celebrate her 40th birthday in Mexico – after he was hospitalized with pneumonia
Richard Gere’s wife has said the actor is mostly recovered after being hospitalized with pneumonia. Alejandra Gere posted a series of photos to Instagram from the couple’s recent trip Mexico with the caption, ‘as you can see we are mostly recovered.’ Gere, 73, was diagnosed with the lung infection after checking himself into a hospital near their vacation home in Nuevo Vallarta, TMZ reported earlier this month.
He was said to have been suffering from a cough prior to the trip but that his health deteriorated so severely he felt the need to seek medical attention. Gere spent one night in the hospital and was discharged the following day having been prescribed antibiotics, according to the outlet’s sources. ‘What an amazing birthday! Thank you all my friends and family for make it so special!’ said Alejandra in an Instagram post after the trip.
Alejandra, a Spanish publicist and longtime family friend of Gere’s, married him in 2018 on his massive ranch in upstate New York. The pair have since had two sons together – Alexander, four, and a two-year-old whose name has not been made public. Both children accompanied the couple on their latest Mexico trip, during which Silva revealed all four of them had recently been ill.
She wrote on Instagram after his release form hospital: ‘Thank you all for the birthday wishes.. after almost 3 weeks of everyone being sick in our family today finally I feel much better! Thank you for all the love I give it all back to you!’ Before his relationship with Silva, Gere was married to 1990s supermodel Cindy Crawford and actress Carey Lowell.
Gere and Lowell were married from 2002 until 2016. When he and Alejandra went public in 2015, both were in the process of divorcing their previous spouses. Along with their two boys, Gere has a 23-year-old son, Homer, whom he shares with his second ex-wife, Carey Lowell, while Silva has a nine-year-old son, Albert, who arrived during her first marriage to her first husband Govind Friedland, a mining magnate.
Alejandra revealed recently that given the couple’s 33 year age gap that Gere made a promise to her that he would be around long enough to see their two children grow up and become adults. ‘He has promised me at least 20 good years!’ she said, before sharing how at 73, Gere still has the energy of a young man. ‘But I have to confess that he has much more energy than me, is much more active. It’s hard to keep up with him. … He’s not human!’
