Richard Madeley threatens to walk out of Good Morning Britain after being compares to Ken doll

‘I’m out of here!’ Richard Madeley threatens to walk out of Good Morning Britain after Susanna Reid compares him to a Ken doll

Richard Madeley jokingly threatened to walk out of the Good Morning Britain studio after he was compared to a Ken doll.

The TV presenter, 66, was back on the ITV show alongside regular host Susanna Reid on Wednesday.

The pair discussed space scientist Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock being honoured with a Barbie doll in her likeness to celebrate her achievements.

Susanna remarked she would like to have a Barbie doll made to look like her while Richard thought it would be nice to have his own Ken doll.

Susanna then quipped: ‘To be fair Richard, you do look like the spitting image of Ken.’

Richard jokingly replied: ‘Oh get lost. Okay, I’m out of here,’ before adding: ‘There’s only so much I can … being likened to a plastic [doll], come on!’

Ranvir Singh brought up the comparison again later in the show, saying she had found a photo of Ken and Richard was shown in a split screen with it.

Ranvir said: ‘The traditional Ken, who you know Richard, must be modelled on you.’

Not seeing any similarity, Richard replied: ‘What are you talking about?’

Susanna then teased: ‘Don’t worry, we don’t want to risk another walkout… There was a threat of a walkout at the beginning of the programme.’

However, Ranvir insisted Richard shouldn’t take offense and insisted being compared to Ken was a ‘compliment’.

Richard returned to Good Morning Britain on Monday, revealing emergency tongue surgery was the reason for his two-week absence.

The broadcaster admitted he needed an operation after haplessly smashing his chin on a car door while ‘fiddling around’ at home.

‘I was either a freak having an accident or I had a freak accident, take your pick,’ he explained to Susanna.

‘I was crouching down on a slope between my open car door and I was just fiddling around with something at the bottom of the car and I turned around just as the door decided to close itself, gravity pulled it shut.’

He added: ‘It’s a big heavy door and it hit me on the chin and I really bit my tongue, to the extent I needed an op, I had to have some stitches in it.’

The admission left Susanna, who announced her regular co-host’s return across social media on Sunday, with her head in her hands.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
