Rick and Morty season 7 release date revealed: Show returning after co-creator Justin Roiland was dropped amid felony domestic violence claims

  • Roiland’s elony domestic violenc charges were dismissed in March ‘as a result of having insufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt’

Rick And Morty’s seventh edition is just weeks away, after the release date for the new season was announced.

The Adult Swim show’s Twitter account released the news on August 24 that it will be returning on October 15.

It will be hoping for a return to normality after its star and co-creator Justin Roiland was accused, but later cleared, of felony domestic violence charges.

Rick And Morty’s announcement read: ‘We ride together. We die together. We’re buried in the backyard together. Rick and Morty Season 7 is coming to @AdultSwim 10/15 #rickandmorty.’

The post was accompanied by a poster promoting the new season, with title characters Rick and Morty joined by the latter’s sister Summer.

Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen said in a statement in The Hollywood Reporter: ‘Thanks to the talent of the entire show team, we can all enjoy 10 new episodes that yet again raise the bar for comedy and animation.

‘This season proves that the geniuses at work on Rick and Morty are just getting started.’

It is yet to be revealed who will voice titular cartoons Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith, with Roiland previously filling both roles.

The sitcom’s co-creator was dropped by Adult Swim in January on the back of felony domestic violence charges, with it announced that his voice roles would be recast.

The 42-year-old was cleared in March and slammed the ‘false’ claims.

A spokeswoman for the Orange County District Attorney’s office, Kimberly Edds, confirmed to Variety that the charges were dismissed ‘as a result of having insufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.’

Roiland then tweeted: ‘I have always known that these claims were false — and I never had any doubt that this day would come.

‘I’m thankful that this case has been dismissed but, at the same time, I’m still deeply shaken by the horrible lies that were reported about me during this process.’

However, the impact was already made on his Rick And Morty involvement, with Dan Harmon now the sole showrunner.

Roiland, though, will continue to be credited as co-creator when the show returns on Max in October.
