Ricky Gervais confesses his penchant for alcohol

He is one of Britain’s most renowned comedians, and is normally unreserved when revealing his personal experiences.

And Ricky Gervais spoke out on his extreme liking for alcohol in an exclusive interview with The Daily Star On Sunday – where he expressed that he’s ‘been drunk every day’ since his first experience with booze at age 18.

The 56-year-old actor also confessed to wetting himself after six pints of Guinness during a weekend bender.

In the honest admission, the Derek star said: I was sober for 18 years – the first 18 years of my life. And I have been drunk every day since. There has not been a day when I haven’t had a drink.’

Comparing himself to his father who also shared a fondness for alcoholic beverages, he revealed he thought he wouldn’t follow in the footsteps of his dad who ‘liked’ a drink, but admitted he found himself going the same way. 

Ricky also reflected on when he wet his bed after his partner was away for a weekend: ‘I went to the pub with my mate and I had about six pints of Guinness…I woke up and has p***** the bed’.

He went on to thank booze in helping him ‘be brave enough’ at the 2016 Golden Globes, admitting: ‘I like it too much, I’m not going to give it up.’

This interview followed his appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in November, where he revealed why he hasn’t started a family with his partner of 35 years Jane Fallon.

He confessed that ‘he would worry too much if he had a child to look after’.

Speaking about his fears, he told the television host: ‘I’d worry sick about a baby. I have a cat and I worry about that.’ 

Instead of kids, the British musician looks after his Persian cat Ollie with his long-term girlfriend.

Of his cat, Ricky added: ‘I put food and water in every room in case the door closes and he’s peckish for 20 minutes.’

The funnyman explained he doesn’t ‘love’ children for many reasons but mostly because they are ‘too much responsibility’.

Speaking about why he doesn’t want children, he explained: ‘There’s loads of reasons why I don’t love kids.

‘The world is overpopulated. No one’s sitting around going, “Oh Rick is not having kids, we’re going to run out.” There’s loads. Too much responsibility.’
