Right wing activist said she got rape threats in Australia

Controversial right-wing activist Lauren Southern has been in the country for less than 24 hours and is already planning to have dinner with Pauline Hanson.

Southern has also said that after touching down in Brisbane Airport wearing an ‘it’s okay to be while’ T-shirt she received online rape threats.

The YouTube star’s latest scandal comes as the 23-year-old is gearing up for a nationwide speaking tour advocating for ‘free speech’.

The Canadian YouTube star rose to fame in 2015 as an outspoken critic of illegal immigration, Islam and LGBTQ rights

Talking to The Saturday Telegraph, she revealed that she believes that America has the correct stance when it comes to gun control and Australia should follow suit.

‘I think the Americans have it right. The idea of having guns is essentially to protect yourself from a totalitarian government,’ she said.

Ms Southern also said that she regularly receives death threats online.

‘I was just reading the comments on the article that came out about the ‘It’s okay to be white shirt,’ and someone was saying, ‘I hope she gets raped,” the YouTube star said.

Despite Ms Southern’s confidence, her tour encountered problems before she even touched down – when her visa was initially denied.

Earlier this week, the Toronto-resident claimed an ‘unprecedented’ number of hurdles were put in place to stop her from visiting Australia.

‘We’ve been told [by our immigration lawyers] that it’s unprecedented,’ she told the Daily Telegraph.

‘But I’m not surprised they are dragging out the process. There are so many people that are offended by debate and free speech that sometimes governments cower, it’s just way easier to play into the hands of people who are totalitarian.’

However, the decision was later overturned on Tuesday following what her tour organiser labelled an ‘unusually prolonged application process’.

It follows an earlier visa controversy for Southern, after she was banned from entering the UK in March for distributing ‘racist material’.

She revealed that Pauline Hanson felt bad that immigration had treated her poorly and hoped to have dinner with the One Nation leader.

‘Hanson said she felt quite bad for how I was being treated by immigration and that she would like to meet for dinner,’ she said.

However, Southern’s clothing turned heads in Australia before her talks have even started, as she entered the country wearing the ‘It’s okay to be white’ shirt.

The T-shirt’s slogan first gained popularity on on 4chan’s ‘politically incorrect’ image board.

‘It’s okay to be white’ soon became a battle-cry for users whose campaign aimed to make the mainstream ‘realise that leftists and journalists hate white people’.

The Canadian YouTube star rose to fame in 2015 as an outspoken critic of illegal immigration, Islam and LGBTQ rights.

In a self-posted video promoting the tour – which will also feature conservative commentator Stefan Molyneux – Ms Southern said Australians are ‘at a crossroads’.

‘Do you want to retain your culture? Do you want to retain your borders, family, identity?’ she asked.

‘Or will the boats keep coming? Will the no-go zones keep growing and will you become another victim of multiculturalism?’

Ms Southern further vocalised her views in an interview with Sky News Australia where she was asked about having pride in her skin colour.

‘I’m happy with being white, I’m fine with being white, I feel zero shame whatsoever in being white,’ she told the program.

‘If I were black I could say I’m proud. If I were Asian I could say I’m proud…but if I’m white and I say I’m proud the media will go nuts.’
