Rightmove listing offers female student £23 rent for ‘special favours’

Rightmove has been forced to apologise for posting a house advertisement offering female students reduced rent in return for ‘special favours’.

The advertisement posted by Studenttenant.com on Rightmove and Zoopla offered the two-bedroom terraced house in Birmingham for £23 a week on Wednesday.

The property listing read: ‘Two bedroom property available to female student close to Longbridge station which is 20 minutes to Selly Oak Station,

The fully-furnished property boasted a parking spot, garden and was marketed for students in the local area

‘Property is available on a reduced rent for special favours to be discussed.’

Rightmove users vented their frustration on social media posting a screenshot of the listing. 

Rosh Rashid, 21, a student who is looking for a two-bedroom property to rent in the area wrote: ‘I just can’t believe Rightmove allowed it to be advertised in the first place.’

The discounted accommodation is in return for anything but monetary payments.

A recent study from YouGov found 250,000 women had been subjected to a landlord asking for sexual favours in exchange for cheap rent.

Commissioned by the housing charity Shelter a staggering 190,000 women say they were propositioned by prospective landlords last year.

The advert was confirmed to be genuine, removed and reported to police. 

A spokesperson from RightMove said: ‘As soon as we became aware of the text in this listing we immediately removed it from the site, as it is obviously unacceptable,

‘We have spoken with the agent advertising the property who have confirmed that they’re carrying out a full investigation.’ 

The MailOnline has has contacted Zoopla for comment.
