Rio Ferdinand has suggested Tottenham striker Harry Kane should look elsewhere if he wants to win the biggest trophies during his career.

Kane has failed to lift any silverware during his time in north London – finishing runner-up in last season’s Champions League and in the 2014-15 League Cup.

Tottenham already sit 10 points off pace-setters Liverpool in the Premier League after just seven matches and were dumped out of the Carabao Cup last week by League Two side Colchester.

And Ferdinand, who won six Premier League titles and one Champions League with Manchester United, has compared his situation at Leeds to the current predicament facing Kane at Tottenham.

Ahead of Tottenham’s Champions League clash at home to Bayern Munich, Ferdinand told BT Sport: ‘It leads me to look at Harry Kane.

‘What are you in the game for? Are you in the game to be a one club man or to win trophies? Do Spurs look like a team capable of winning trophies?

‘I don’t think so. They were a better team a couple of years ago. Leeds is a similar example, I was maybe a year or two younger but I was in a team at a Champions League semi-final, nearly won the league, but I thought I had a better chance elsewhere and I had the opportunity to go. I made a very quick decision to go and win trophies.

‘Harry Kane is probably thinking about it and having those questions. They need answering soon. He’s 26 and you only have a small window of opportunity, they come and go very quickly.’

Former Tottenham striker Peter Crouch backed Ferdinand up, claiming the England international will look to leave if the club don’t go all out for success.

Crouch added: ‘There’s a lot to be said about being a legend at a football club. He’ll want to win trophies, but they [Spurs] are not there at the moment. He’ll want signings and assurances or he will leave.’
