Robert Irwin says he doesn’t want to be like dad Steve

He’s the son of the late ‘Crocodile Hunter’ Steve Irwin.

And on Saturday, Robert Irwin revealed why he didn’t want to follow in his legendary father’s footsteps.

Speaking to the Courier Mail, the 13-year-old said he wanted to be his own person while still continuing on his Dad’s legacy.

Doing his own thing: On Saturday, Robert Irwin revealed he didn’t want to be like his legendary father Steve the Crocodile Hunter

‘I don’t want be exactly like Dad, I don’t want to be Dad, but I do want to continue his legacy,’ he said.

‘I am trying to make him proud. I would like him to be proud.’

‘It’s in my blood, it’s in my DNA, and it’s in everything I do. Dad never cared about being known for himself, he cared about the message, and that’s what I’m trying to do, continue that message,’ he continued.

Making his own name: 'I don't want be exactly like Dad, I don't want to be Dad, but I do want to continue his legacy,' said Robert

And it seems as though Robert is doing just that.

Spending six months out of the year travelling on research trips, the home schooled animal lover who’s currently at an education level of year 11 spends his spare moments working on his wildlife photography and assisting around the zoo.

And Robert’s intelligence has come in handy as he reveals although he wasn’t even three when his father passed, he still has many memories of their precious time together.

Earlier in the month, Robert made headlines after Woman’s Day magazine reported he had found love with fellow wildlife enthusiast, Tess Poyner.

The report went on to say older sister Bindi, 19, ‘couldn’t be happier for her little brother’.

However, a representative for the conservationist denied the relationship, telling Daily Mail Australian the speculation was ‘false’.
