Robert Pattinson ‘in talks to star in Parasite director Bong Joon Ho’s sci-fi film Mickey7’

Robert Pattinson is in talks to star in Bong Joon Ho’s next film, a sci-fi movie based on an upcoming novel about a man colonizing an ice world.

Bong, 52, will be writing and directing an adaptation of Edward Ashton’s upcoming novel Mickey7, according to The Hollywood Reporter. 

The book follows a man who learns he is being cloned after dying from risky jobs he is tasked with completing while colonizing a world called Niflheim.

The man is described as an expendable employee who completes jobs ‘too risky for anyone else, and when he dies, he regenerates as a clone with most of his memories intact.’

But ‘when Mickey7 is presumed dead, he returns to the mission’s base only to see that a new clone, Mickey8, has taken his place.’

The book is set to be released in February 2022.

According to Deadline, Bong’s interest in working on the film was immediately piqued after he was given the book’s manuscript.

The Okja director became ‘loosely attached’ to the film in late 2022 and met with an array of promising stars prior to breaking for the holidays. The site reports ‘every A-lister in their 30s was chasing the role.’

Robert eventually met with Bong and executives, whom were impressed with the actor and believed he was perfect for the part. An offer was made to Pattinson just before the new year.

Bong made waves following the release of his 2019 thriller Parasite which followed an impoverished household infiltrating the lives of an affluent family.

Robert, meanwhile, will soon be seen on big screens in the highly-anticipated action film The Batman.

The film, which also stars Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, is set for release on March 4, 2022.
