Roberto Bautista Agut can go on stag do after losing at Wimbledon

He cancelled his stag do so he could play in the Wimbledon semi-final – but he might be able to salvage some of it after all.

Roberto Bautista Agut, 31, had to scrap his plans in Ibiza this weekend when he made it through to the final four – which he never expected to do.

He even invited his six ‘stags’ to come and watch the match on Centre Court alongside his ex-beauty queen fiancée Ana Bodi Tortosa to make up for the last-second change.

But the group are now free to party for the rest of the weekend after he was swept aside by defending champion Novak Djokovic in four sets.

Bautista Agut fought admirably against the four-time Wimbledon winner but could not find a way past his opponent.

His unusual circumstances won him plenty of fans on social media with people describing his story as ‘touching’.

One Twitter user wrote: ‘Hearing that Roberto Bautista Agut has had to cancel his stag do, which was planned for this weekend, because he’s made it further than expected has made me want him to win today even more.’

Another said: ‘Hearing Roberto Bautista Agut put a stag do on hold because he reached the Wimbledon semi-final, what a guy aha.

‘I doubt he will trouble Novak much today, but it has been an incredible tournament for Roberto regardless of the outcome.’

But after Djokovic got off to a strong start in the match, one cheeky fan added: ‘Novak Djokovic a lovely fella, going to send Mr. Bautista Agut away on his stag before half 2, fair play.’

Speaking before the match, Bautista Agut said: ‘I had planned to be in Ibiza right now. It feels better to be here in London.’

His fiancée also missed a wedding dress fitting in Madrid to cheer him on from the stands.

The pair have known each other since they were teenagers and are set to wed in November.

Ms Tortosa supports her husband-to-be at all of his matches but prefers to keep a low profile on social media.

Bautista Agut is the number 23 seed at Wimbledon and is probably best known to British fans as the man who knocked Andy Murray out of the Australian Open in January in what looked like the Scot’s final ever singles match before his recent hip operation and recovery.

Although he was the underdog against Djokovi, he had beaten him in the two meetings they have previously had this year.

The challenge of winning Wimbledon was too huge a task however, with no player other than Djokovic, Murray, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal winning since 2002.

Nadal and Federer will meet each other after Bautista Agut’s match in the second semi-final of the day.
