Rod Stewart showed off his dance moves in a video shared to Instagram on Thursday, as he faces a battery charge for punching a security guard on New Year’s Eve.

The music icon, who turned 75 on Friday, defied his years as he put on an energetic display on the eve of his birthday – just nine days after he was charged with battery for a scrap involving him, his son Sean and a bouncer in Florida.

The Handbags and Gladrags singer donned a yellow shirt, powder blue jeans, trainers and a denim jacket for his video, filmed to promote his upcoming North American tour.

On Friday, Rod’s wife Penny Lancaster, 48, who wed the star in 2007, shared a throwback snap of the pair, captioned: ‘Love this man, from 55 to 75, happy birthday darling. ‘dream team’.’

Penny treated Rod to a lavish birthday cake and afternoon tea for his birthday – and revealed the star had undergone knee replacement surgery on Tuesday.

She said: ‘Roddy is doing remarkably well after his knee replacement surgery on Tuesday (so well that the naughty boy keeps trying to walk with out his crutches).

‘Luckily he is being discharged today to celebrate his 75th tonight and home this weekend to see the boys play football!’

The Celtic fan has previously revealed his knee had ‘packed up’ after years of playing football.

Sir Rod rang in his milestone birthday with former Faces bandmate and Rolling Stones legend Ronnie Wood, 72.

The star shared a series of raucous snaps of the pair partying, with Ronnie embracing a delighted Rod, who flashed some chest in an unbuttoned shirt paired with medallions.

The pair enjoyed a Faces reunion as they were joined by former drummer Kenney Jones.

This comes little over a week since Rod was charged with battery after he allegedly punched a security guard at a swanky Palm Beach hotel on New Year’s Eve after he and his party were denied access to a private event there.

According to police documents obtained by DailyMail.com, Rod Stewart has been charged with simple battery – a misdemeanor – following the incident that took place at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida, on December 31 at about 11.09pm.

Both the singer and his son, Sean Stewart, 39, were named in the incident.

Hotel security guard Jessie Dixon, 33, told police that he was working at a private event in the children’s area of the hotel that night when he saw ‘a group of people’ near the check-in table

They were trying to get into the event, even though they ‘were unauthorized to do so,’ according to the police report.

‘The group began to get loud and cause a scene’ and refused to leave when Dixon told them to go, the report said.

Dixon then told police that a man – later identified as Rod Stewart’s son, Sean Stewart – ‘got “about nose to nose” distance’ from Dixon’s face.

When Dixon put ‘the back of his right hand’ on Sean’s chest and told him to ‘back up and create some space,’ Sean allegedly shoved Dixon backwards.

Then, Rod Stewart ‘stepped toward him and threw a punch, striking Dixon in his left ribcage area,’ according to the police report.

Police said that they then went to speak with Rod, who told them that they were trying to get the children in their group into the event.

But, after being denied access to the event, Rod told police that ‘Dixon became argumentative with his family, which in turn caused them to become agitated,’ the police report said.

Rod ‘apologized for his behavior in the incident,’ police noted.

Police then spoke with two hotel employees who were also working at the private event. They signed sworn witness statements confirming that Sean had pushed Dixon and that they saw Rod punch Dixon.

The Breakers video camera footage was also reviewed by police.

The footage showed that Sean and Rod were ‘the primary aggressors,’ according to the report.

Police said the footage showed that Sean ‘forcefully pushed Dixon backward a few feet’ and that once the security guard ‘regained his footing and stepped back’ toward Sean, Rod ‘stepped forward and struck Dixon’s chest with a closed fist.’

The probable cause affidavit notes that Dixon wishes to go forward with prosecuting both Sean and Rod Stewart for battery.

Between the sworn witness statements and the video footage, police said that there is enough evidence to warrant charging Rod with one count of simple battery.

It’s unclear if Sean will also face charges, although the arrest/notice to appear documentation lists him as a co-defendant.

Rod was issued with a notice to appear at the Palm Beach County Criminal Justice Complex on February 5.

Sean was charged with unlawful entry into a restricted area and released the next day after posting bail.

The father-and-son fighting duo could face a year in jail, the same time on probation or a £760 fine if found guilty of battery at a hearing in Palm Beach in February.

Though Mr Dixon declined to comment on its accuracy, a police report indicates that he’s planning to prosecute.

Sean has blamed ‘aggressive’ bouncer Dixon who provoked him for starting the scrap that broke out between the guard and his dad.

Sean alleges that security staff Dixon was acting aggressively when Rod jumped in for his son and struck the guard in the chest.

He said that he and the operative squared up to each other at the James Bond-themed event at The Breakers Resort in Palm Beach, Florida and that he was ‘sticking up’ for his family.

Sir Rod, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, said that it was Mr Dixon who riled up the situation.

Sean, who has been in trouble with the law before, said the ‘truth will prevail’.

Rod has been in hot water with the police before – in the 1960s, he was arrested three times while participating in sit-ins in London while supporting the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.

Sean has a previous arrest record, as well.

In September 2002, he was sentenced to 90 days in jail and ordered to go to drug rehab after pleading no contest to attacking a man outside a restaurant in Malibu. Then, in 2010, he was arrested for driving with a suspended license.

And, in February 2015, Sean was arrested at Miami International Airport. Police said he jumped onto a luggage carousel after seeing his bag and riding around on the conveyor belt, according to Local 10.
